Nine has launched the 2024 upfront season, listing their new and returning shows for the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. 

Below is a breakdown of what to expect from Nine Entertainment over the next 12 months. 

Olympic and Paralympic commentators for Paris 2024

Nine will be the home of the Olympics and Paralympics next year, and will say bonjour to Paris 2024 when Wide World of Sports brings the Olympics to Australia with the Opening Ceremony on July 26. The Paralympics will follow on August 28.

The Nine Network’s coverage will be led by the Wide World of Sports team, and will feature broadcasters, journalists, Olympians and Paralympians.

Leading the coverage will be Ally Langdon, James Bracey, Dylan Alcott, Sarah Abo, Karl Stefanovic, Brooke Boney, Alex Cullen, Todd Woodbridge, Leila McKinnon and Eddie McGuire.

Nine News will have a strong presence on the ground in Paris, led by Roz Kelly and Tony Jones bringing viewers all the breaking news during coverage and the 6.00pm bulletins around the nation.

Steering viewers across 32 sports in 329 events at the Olympics, the Nine Network coverage will feature  athletic talent as commentators and experts.

A taste of what is to come has now been revealed, with the first wave of experts to join the Wide World of Sports team for Paris 2024.

With many more names set to be announced over the coming months.

The Wide World of Sports studio will be located in the centre of Paris at the Trocadero, with the Eiffel Tower backdrop. Using cutting-edge broadcast technology, the studio will be complemented by extended reality, giving viewers an immersive broadcast.

Additional cameras inside the main venues and within the Olympic Village will capture behind-the-scenes action and provide exclusive access to athletes and the Australian team during their quest for gold.

The Nine Network broadcast will feature two dedicated Olympic channels on Channel 9HD and 9GemHD filled with Olympic content 24 hours a day. Plus, 9Now will stream 40 individual channels live and on-demand, as well as extensive curation of VOD highlights and full replays.

From August 28, Nine will bring Australia the most extensive coverage of a Paralympic Games ever. Live action and daily highlights shows will run across the 9Network, including prominently on primary Channel 9HD, plus 9GemHD, with 9Now offering live and on-demand content.

Returning Shows and Sport in 2023

Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars

Aussies, looking to turn their food dreams into reality, will put everything on the line in Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars, a new series coming soon to the Nine Network.

Global culinary superstar and CEO Gordon Ramsay will be pitted against Australian business mogul Janine Allis. Both investing $250,000, they’re on the hunt for Australia’s most innovative new food and drink ideas, to mentor and invest in.

Contestants will first pitch their concepts, hoping to win a place in the competition with their dream investor. The Top 14 will battle it out for a place in Gordon and Janine’s competing teams. Having to survive and compete in various high-pressure challenges, they will need to prove they have what it takes when it comes to all the facets needed in running a successful business.

One winning entrepreneur from each team will take home a cash prize investment, as well as mentorship from either Gordon or Janine as their investor.

The format with Gordon Ramsay, already broadcasting in the UK and US, is produced by Endemol Shine Australia (A Banijay company) and Studio Ramsay Global (a FOX Entertainment company), for the Nine Network.

My Mum Your Dad

Kate Langbroek is ready to help a new group of single parents find love in My Mum Your Dad season two.

In a new Retreat, the adult children are taking control of their parents’ dating life.

In the last series the kids were a secret. In this series, the parents have given their children their blessing to play matchmaker and watch all the awkward dating moments. Some kids may get more than they signed up for.

Six men and seven women will enter the Retreat and experience real connections and heartbreak as they put their trust in their kids to find the best partner for them. The mums and dads will get to enjoy dates and parties in order to find a connection as they work towards the ultimate test, the Blessing Ceremony.

For the relationships that make it to the Blessing Ceremony, it’s make or break. Will the children approve of the relationship? Or will the kids have seen enough to end it all?

Love Island Australia

Returning to Mallorca, Sophie Monk will introduce new sexy singles to the villa for season five of Love Island Australia, narrated by Eoghan McDermott.

The islanders must couple up and stay together in order to secure their spot in the villa, despite the temptations when new Bombs enter.

This season the girls will have the power to take charge, there will be risky challenges, date nights and plenty more drama and romance, before the winning couple of Love Island Australia 2023 is decided by the viewers.

Last season Love Island Australia reached more than 4.2 million Australians, with exclusive viewing on 9Now providing incremental uplift of 34.4%.

NRL Grand Final

The biggest game on the rugby league calendar is exclusive to Channel 9HD and 9Now as a blockbuster NRL finals series culminates in the crowning of the 2023 NRL champions on Grand Final day.

Nine’s Wide World of Sports will hold a Grand Final day celebration with 16 hours of coverage, the most in history, from 7.00am on site at Accor Stadium. The Today Show, Sports Sunday, the Sunday Footy Show, the NRL State Championship and NRLW Grand Finals will all lead into the NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final.

But first, the 2023 Grand Finalists will be decided after the closest season over three weekends of finals footy.

The biggest NRLW season ever, where every game has been live on Nine, will crown the 2023 women’s premiership winners as the last game before the NRL Grand Final is played. Dual women’s league and union internationals Ruan Sims and Allana Ferguson, plus sideline reporter Marlee Silva will cover game.

Nine will provide live insight from commentators including rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns, and fellow premiership winners Cameron Smith, Phil Gould, Billy Slater, Brad Fittler, Johnathan Thurston, Darren Lockyer and Paul Gallen.

Mat Thompson will call the game, with coverage hosted by James Bracey, Danika Mason and Emma Lawrence.

Pacific Championship Rugby League

The Pacific Championship pits the best rugby league nations in the southern hemisphere against each other across four weeks of action.

Men’s and women’s teams from Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Tonga and Cook Islands will line up each weekend from October 14 through to November 5 in a series of hard-hitting fixtures.

Every game is available live and free on the Nine Network and 9Now.

30 Years Of Grand Final Footy Shows

The Footy Show celebrates its 30th anniversary with two spectacular special features.

This September 30 Years of Grand Final Footy Shows explores the journey from the inaugural Grand Final Footy Show in 1993, its role in giving rise to the AFL Footy Show in 1994, and its establishment of the Rod Laver Arena spectacles that became an integral part of AFL Grand Final week.

Then, in 2024, a comprehensive documentary 30 Years of The Footy Show provides a behind-the-scenes look at the show’s evolution, shedding light on the camaraderie, controversies, laughter, and shared vision that defined The Footy Show.

These specials bring together the key people involved in the show’s success, featuring exclusive interviews, highlights, and never-before-seen footage that takes viewers on a journey through the program’s history.

Rugby World Cup 2023

The Wallabies under coach Eddie Jones take the first step on their journey to Rugby World Cup 2023 glory when they begin their campaign on Sunday, September 10, in France, with every Wallabies game, plus the finals, available live and free on the Nine Network or to stream on 9Now.

Throughout the two-month tournament, Stan Sport will have every game ad-free, live and in 4K Ultra HD, culminating in the final from Paris on October 28.

ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023

Following one of the most intense Ashes series ever played, the Nine Network goes global on cricket when the biggest prize in the game is up for grabs in the 2023 ICC Men’s World Cup.

Switching to short form 50 over One Day Internationals, the Wide World of Sports will have every Australia game and the finals available live and free from India.

England are the reigning champions after defeating New Zealand in dramatic fashion and both teams will feature in the first game on October 5, before Australia begins their run against India on Sunday, October 8 from 7.00pm ahead of six weeks of cricket leading up to the final on Sunday, November 19.

Cheer on the Aussies as they attempt to conquer the world and knock the chirpy poms off their perch.

Golf

Wide World of Sports will tee up for the Australian summer of golf in two weeks of live and free play featuring British Open champion Cameron Smith, back on Aussie soil.

First up from November 23 is the Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland where Smith will defend his title in his home state, in a field including fellow Aussie Min Woo Lee.

Then it’s on to the big one, the ISPS HANDA Australian Open in Sydney from November 30 at The Australian and The Lakes Golf Clubs, with players competing for a $3.4 million prize purse.

The best men’s and women’s golfers will be on display and the Nine Network and 9Now will showcase it all.

Australia’s Most Identical

The two-part special, Australia’s Most Identical, will see 100 sets of twins undertake tests and challenges in the hope of being crowned the nation’s most identical pair.

Hosted by Scott Cam and Dr Jana Pittman, both parents of fraternal twins, this social investigation series will put identical twins under the microscope to reveal a whole lot about humans and contribute to the nature versus nurture debate.

Identical twin doctors and British TV presenters, Dr Xand and Dr Chris van Tulleken, will set the challenges while Australia’s leading “twin experts”, Professor Sarah Wilson and Professor Jeff Craig, will assist in analysing the results, in consultation with Twin Research Australia.

The series will give viewers an insight into the world of twins, demonstrating the reality of sharing your identity with another through great characters and their fascinating back stories.

The Hundred – Christmas

The Hundred with Andy Lee will be back in December to find out what Australians really think about the jolliest time of the year – Christmas.

Andy Lee will be joined again by 100 everyday Aussies who Zoom into the studio from all over the continent to tell us what the nation is really thinking about the festive season.

The team behind the international award-winning series Australian Crime Stories is back with a new series in a new format, Australian Crime Stories: The Investigators.

Told by the investigators themselves, each episode will focus on one case, highlighting the work, dedication and commitment investigators make in solving the toughest crimes of their careers.

Viewers will have insights to all the twists and turns of these major investigations, from the moment the crime occurred to the final confession or conviction. As well as firsthand accounts from the investigators, we also hear from the families involved, plus journalists and authors who have closely followed these cases.

In the series return, retired Detective Superintendent Deborah Wallace takes viewers inside unsolved crimes in the Nine Network’s Million Dollar Murders.

With access to police and their files, Deborah Wallace will take viewers inside the live investigation of these murders. Christmas with Delta is back. Delta Goodrem hosts another night of musical magic. This year’s Christmas special, which will take place at the Sydney Coliseum Theatre, promises to bring festive cheer with a packed night of Australian and international entertainment stars.

ARIA Awards

Australian music’s night of nights, the ARIA Awards will light up screens again this year. Australia will get its own version of the hit international quiz show Jeopardy! with Jeopardy! Australia.

Hosted by English broadcaster and actor Stephen Fry, Jeopardy! Australia will feature a cast of Aussie competitors in one of the world’s longest-running game shows.

Returning Shows in 2024

Married At First Sight

Married at First Sight returns in 2024 for its 11th season. This season will see the combination of a new set of participants ready for their chance at love, along with all of the romance, passion, emotion and drama that comes with it.

In 2024, the trio of experts, certified clinical sexologist Alessandra Rampolla alongside relationship experts John Aiken and Mel Schilling will return, first pairing the brave singles entering the experiment before guiding the couples throughout their journey and putting them to the ultimate test of developing genuine, long-lasting relationships.

The Block

The Block hits a milestone in 2024, heading into its 20th season. Plus, host Scott Cam will be back for his 18th season to guide the five keen teams along the way. As usual, at stake will be $100,000 for the overall winner on auction day, on top of any profits made.

Lego Masters Australia

Lego Masters has taken off around the world, now the world is coming back. In the Olympic year, it’s “Australia vs The Rest Of the World” at Lego Masters with four new Australian teams taking on the four best Lego teams who have previously competed in their homelands.

It’s time for Host Hamish Blake and resident judge Ryan “Brickman” McNaught to turn Lego Masters into a 2024 global bricktacular.

The format is returning with imaginative builds, when teams duel it out for the chance to win $100,000 and the crowning title of the best Lego building team in the world.

The Summit

It was a nailbiter moment for Australia as three trekkers conquered The Summit, and shared the prize money. In a new location, season two will return bigger in 2024, hosted by Australian actor and Hollywood star Jai Courtney.

A new group of Aussies will embark on an adventure to reach the top of one of New Zealand’s highest mountains and earn the chance to walk away with a share of $1 million.

Travel Guides

Off the back of its second consecutive Logie win, Travel Guides is back in 2024, letting viewers see the world from the comfort of their living rooms.

Featuring overseas adventures and domestic delights, the seventh season of Travel Guides will see most the travel critics return, including Newcastle’s budget-hunting Fren family, couple Matt and Brett, retired jetsetters Kevin and Janetta, and best mates Kev, Dorian and Teng.

Joining them on the road for the first time will be Karly and Bri, two besties who met while filming Beauty and the Geek for Channel Nine a couple of years ago. Like many Aussies, Karly and Bri have never travelled further afield than Bali.

The Hundred with Andy Lee

The Hundred with Andy Lee is back in 2024, with 100 everyday Aussies comedians coming together to find out what the country is really thinking.

Season six of The Hundred will tackle more of society’s biggest (and smallest) questions like: What percentage of The Hundred have had to cut a date short for a bathroom emergency? How many people have hooked up with the same person as their sibling? How many of our Hundred have moved back in with their parents as adults?

Handpicked to represent the demographic makeup of Australia, The Hundred will once again be polled live via Zoom to give us the stories behind the stats, while three comedy panellists battle it out on each episode to see who knows Australia best.

Favourite segments Couples Court, Trial By A Hundred and Face The Hundred will return, along with a raft of new games. The show will also introduce a Valentine’s Day and Pride episode.

RPA

The real-life observational documentary, RPA, is returning in 2024 to once again give viewers exclusive access into the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.

The series gives insight into the inner workings and behind-the-scenes drama of the famous hospital. From the Emergency Department to the wards and operating theatres, RPA will showcase the dedication of the doctors, nurses and specialists.

It will also capture the moments of human drama, bringing stories of courage, heartache, joy, struggle and determination as patients endure journeys in treatment and undergo life-changing experiences.

RPA is a Nine Network series, produced by McAvoy Media with the cooperation of patients and staff at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Big Miracles

Australia’s most heartwarming and emotionally powerful program, Big Miracles, returns for a second season in 2024, narrated by Lisa McCune.

With one in six Australians experiencing infertility, this series is about the ultimate quest to create new life. It invites viewers to see and feel the very raw and emotional journey into one of the most fundamental human experiences of all, trying to have a baby, against the overwhelming odds, through IVF and other fertility treatments.

We also witness the work of the doctors, nurses and scientists committed to making people’s baby dreams come true.

The fly-on-the wall Emergency series is back, giving viewers access to the stories in one of Australia’s biggest trauma hospitals

With returning favourites and a slew of new faces, Emergency will once again pull back the curtain in casualty for an honest, revealing look at the frontline where doctors and nurses save lives every day.

For the Love of Pets returns to the Nine Network, giving viewers a look behind the scenes into the workings of RSPCA Queensland and QVS/Pet Emergency.

For the Love of Pets will follow the people at RSPCA’s Wacol campus who devote their lives to the animals in their care, from vets performing life-changing surgeries to the re-homing team working to care for and re-home thousands of animals each year.

Situated halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Wacol is one of the most significant animal welfare facilities in the southern hemisphere. It houses an adoption centre, a 24/7 hospital for domestic pets and wildlife, and a 24-hour call centre co-ordinating animal rescues.

Australia’s swimming team has eyes on the prize in 2024 with the World Aquatics Championships Doha and the Australian Olympic team trials for the Paris Olympic Games, for which the swimming finals will be available exclusively on Channel 9HD and 9Now in prime time.

Ariarne Titmus, Kaylee McKeown, Mollie O’Callaghan and Emma McKeon will lead the charge for the Dolphins team, alongside a men’s roster that features world champions Kyle Chalmers, Sam Short, Zac Stubblety-Cook and emerging star Elijiah Winnington.

There as every moment unfolds on Wide World of Sports will be Australia’s greatest male swimmer, Ian Thorpe, former world champion Giaan Rooney, Australia’s greatest Paralympian, Ellie Cole, and Mat Thompson to call each race.

It all begins in Doha for the World Aquatics Championships on February 2, followed by the Australian Olympic trials before we dive into the pool at Paris 2024.

Australian Open, Grand Slam Tennis

Nine will serve up a big year of Grand Slam Tennis with the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open available exclusively across the Nine Network, 9Now and Stan Sport.

It begins in January with lead-up tournaments that include the United Cup, before the 2024 Australian Open. Melbourne Park will light up with men’s and women’s tennis talent aiming to take down reigning champions Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka.

A commentary lineup featuring Jim Courier, Jelena Dokic, Lleyton Hewitt, Dylan Alcott, Todd Woodbridge and Sam Smith, will put viewers on centre court for the Australian Open.

Throughout the year tennis fans can keep their eye on the ball with every match from all four Grand Slams, the Laver Cup streaming ad-free, live and on demand on Stan Sport.

Rugby League

The NRL revs up for another season in 2024, all live and free on Channel 9HD and 9Now for the network’s 33rd consecutive year of broadcasting.

We say “Viva Las Vegas” to kick off the season when the NRL competition goes to the USA for the first time in history for its opening weekend.

Each week viewers will get Thursday Night, Friday Night and Sunday Arvo NRL, mixed with magazine shows on offer both on the Nine Network and 9Now. Nine looks forward to working with the Australian Rugby League Commission to also bring viewers NRLW (including the Women’s State of Origin series), Indigenous and Maori All Stars, NSW and Queensland Cup games in 2024.

Hosted by James Bracey and Danika Mason, the lineup of rugby league commentators will assemble on Nine’s Wide World of Sports for the 2024 NRL Telstra Premiership.

Rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns, premiership-winning captains Cameron Smith, Johnathan Thurston, Brad Fittler, Paul Vautin, Paul Gallen, Darren Lockyer, and multiple premiership winners Phil Gould AM, Billy Slater and Sonny Bill Williams will provide insight and analysis.

Mat Thompson, Brenton Speed and Peter Psaltis will call the action for NRL, in combination with hosts and sideline reporters Emma Lawrence, Marlee Silva and dual internationals Ruan Sims and Allana Ferguson.

State of Origin 2024

Nine’s Logie Award-winning State of Origin coverage will see the biggest sporting rivalry in Aussie sport is exclusive, live and free on Channel 9HD and 9Now in 2024.

Fans can watch all three games in the State of Origin series, with additional camera angles on 9Now.

The Queensland Maroons are gunning for a three-peat of series wins while the NSW Blues are desperate to restore state pride and bounce back by avoiding another defeat in the three-game series.

Nine will provide viewers with a lineup of the greatest players in Origin history to call the action, and access to the players, coaches, team buses, sheds and team camps.

Rugby

Super Rugby in 2024 shines a light on the best rugby players in the southern hemisphere when Wide World of Sports broadcasts a weekly game for free across the Nine Network.

With the Brumbies, Waratahs, Reds, Force and Rebels taking on the might of New Zealand rugby powerhouses in the Crusaders and Chiefs, the emerging Wallabies will get their chance to show their talent leading into the Rugby Championship and Bledisloe Cup in August and September.

Stan Sport, will broadcast every Super Rugby game ad-free, live and on demand.

A commentary team of rugby union experts led by Roz Kelly, Nick McArdle and Michael Atkinson will include Sonny Bill Williams, Tim Horan, Justin Harrison, Allana Ferguson and Morgan Turinui, plus caller Sean Maloney.

In 2024 Wide World of Sports will present another instalment of The Masters live and free from Augusta National.
