News24 will examine the growing battle for Australia’s centre-right vote in a new special hosted by Chris Kenny, News24 host.

The Fight for the Right, premiering Tuesday, 25 August at 7.00pm AEST, looks at One Nation’s rising support and the pressure facing the Liberal Party and its Coalition partner, the Nationals.

The program comes as the Coalition faces successive election losses, leadership instability and weak polling. It also follows recent gains for One Nation at the South Australian state election and Farrer federal by-election, alongside stronger national polling.

What The Fight for the Right covers

Kenny interviews Pauline Hanson, One Nation leader, Angus Taylor, Liberal leader, and Matt Canavan, Nationals leader, about the contest for conservative voters and the future of the Coalition.

He also travels to Griffith, the South Australian electorate of Hammond and inner-city Melbourne. There, Kenny meets voters who have switched political allegiances and examines the issues behind those decisions.

The special also considers what One Nation’s rise could mean ahead of the Victorian state election, as traditional voting patterns on the right come under increasing pressure.

Kenny on the fractured right

Kenny said meeting voters who had moved to One Nation offered an insight into the changing political landscape.

“Meeting people across the country who have switched to One Nation is fascinating and illuminating, as is testing the plans of Pauline Hanson, Angus Taylor and Matt Canavan.

“Viewers will be surprised by some of their answers and insights as we probe why the right-of-centre vote has fractured, how the Coalition will survive, and where the rise of One Nation will lead us.”

The Fight for the Right premieres on News24 on Tuesday, 25 August at 7.00pm AEST. It will also stream via News24.com.au and the News24 Australia app.
