News Corp Australia has unveiled Australia’s ‘Mr Cricket’ Mike Hussey as the 2022-23 ambassador of KFC SuperCoach BBL.
Hussey, who got his nickname due to his commitment and passion for the game of cricket, follows from the late Shane Warne, who flew the flag for KFC SuperCoach BBL for the first four seasons of the fantasy game.
A veteran of 79 Tests, Hussey played BBL following his retirement from international cricket, scoring 466 runs in 13 innings in 2015-16.
Hussey is also a passionate KFC SuperCoach player, coming in the top 1,000 in both the BBL and AFL forms of the fantasy game and last season shared his knowledge with subscribers as a specialist contributor. He will now bring his knowledge and expertise to lead the charge as the KFC SuperCoach ambassador.
“I’m excited to be taking on the role of ‘Mr SuperCoach’. I’ve always loved playing all forms of cricket and I’ve especially loved testing my skills in KFC SuperCoach BBL and having bragging rights over my mates,” Hussey said.
“While it’s heartbreaking that our inaugural ambassador and my friend Shane Warne passed away in March, I know he would have wanted the show to go on, he loved BBL and he loved wearing the baggy green tracksuit.”
Hussey spearheads an editorial and marketing campaign for KFC SuperCoach BBL launching this week across News Corp Australia’s state-based and regional mastheads. The marketing campaign will run across television, radio, print, digital and social media.
Michael Wilkins, News Corp Australia’s managing director – News Sport Network, said: “KFC SuperCoach is an integral part of our cricket offering and we’re proud to have Mr Cricket himself, Mike Hussey, batting for KFC SuperCoach BBL in 2022-23.
“His love of the game and own expertise in playing Australia’s best fantasy cricket game will bring a new level of analysis for the thousands of fans who play every year. We are all looking forward to him becoming Mr SuperCoach.”
Players of KFC SuperCoach BBL have the chance to win a $25,000 major prize and winners of each round will be in the running to win $500.
Now in its fifth season, KFC SuperCoach BBL will this year enable players to get weekly insights into Hussey’s team for every round as well as other changes to make taking part easier than ever. These include being able to use up to three trade boosts in any round, player position and trade updates as well as customisable leagues.
SuperCoach Plus subscribers also have access to smart technology suggesting the best trade options for their team.
