News Corp Australia has released Brain Gains, a standalone games product that reimagines the puzzles experience.
The Brain Gains app brings together hundreds of games – From crosswords and quizzes to word and numbers games – to make it easy for consumers to play online and in one place.
News Corp Australia managing director – consumer Mark Reinke said the launch of Brain Gains was part of the company’s subscription strategy, to deliver engaging content and attract new audiences through new media channels.
“Crosswords and puzzles have always been a popular part of our company’s consumer offering and by creating a compelling digital format Brain Gains builds on this rich legacy to tap into new audiences,” Reinke said.
“Our extensive research for this new product confirmed that the popularity of digital puzzle content is increasing and a gap in the market exists for a destination that delivers the best in puzzles with the option to play with friends.
“A huge amount of innovation is being driven in our business and bringing together the best games and puzzles in a beautifully simple user experience has resulted in Brain Gains. The app is world-class, it’s witty, challenging and rewarding and allows users to gain knowledge, sharpness, and peace of mind.”
Reinke said the company’s research revealed Australians play puzzles both for fun and for a range of health benefits. Top of the list is cognitive development, followed by relaxation and entertainment.
“Learning new information or challenging your mind in some way every day is incredibly beneficial for the health of your brain,” Reinke said. “As our knowledge of diseases such as dementia increases, awareness is growing that keeping your mind active through puzzles and quizzes is a great way to build mental agility.
“Australians will be looking to have a well-earned break over the festive season and Brain Gains is being launched to coincide with the Christmas and New Year downtime.”
Brain Gains allows players to choose from word quizzes, number quizzes or general knowledge quizzes and will feature 15 new games every day.
It is available to download now from iTunes with an introductory 30 day free trial, subscriptions will begin at $7.49 a month.
The launch of the app is being supported by a significant promotional campaign across News Corp Australia’s network to encourage consumers to download the app and start playing.
As part of the launch, the daily puzzle pages in the company’s state-based and regional mastheads will now carry the Brain Gains branding.
