News Corp Australia announced it has partnered with Bunnings to launch Plant a Tree Day this Sunday, 10 April 2022.
The initiative is part of the company’s long-standing environmental sustainability program, 1 Degree.
In a special print-only offer in participating News Corp Australia Sunday mastheads this weekend, readers can receive a bonus Australian native plant to redeem at Bunnings.
News Corp Australia’s Community Ambassador, Penny Fowler, said she was delighted with the initiative to help encourage people to plant a tree.
“Plant a Tree Day is all about the small steps anyone of us can take to make a difference and which, as a whole, help encourage major change to create a more sustainable future,” she said.
“Our aspiration for Plant a Tree Day this weekend is to give our customers even more value from their local newspaper with something we can all do in our own backyard because we all have a role to play to make the planet a better, greener place,” she added.
Fowler noted that the initiative aimed to have 170,000 trees planted around the country.
Consumers will be able to collect a hardcopy in-paper token in The Sunday Mail (QLD), The Sunday Telegraph (NSW and ACT), Sunday Herald Sun (VIC), Sunday Mail (SA), Sunday Territorian (NT) and Sunday Tasmanian (TAS) and take it to more than 270 participating Bunnings stores to redeem the bonus native shrub or tree in-store at the Nursery section.
The national Plant a Tree Day campaign will be promoted through print, digital, social and TV advertising.
News Corp Australia has a long-term vision to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
Its environmental goals focus on reducing the company’s carbon footprint, powering operations with cleaner sources of energy, reducing single-use plastic and sourcing newsprint from certified material.
