The wait is over – Happy Gilmore 2 is officially on its way, with Adam Sandler returning to the tee in the highly anticipated sequel, set to stream 25 July on Netflix. The first trailer has landed, giving fans a glimpse of Happy’s return to the green, complete with old rivals, new faces, and a fresh round of chaotic comedy.
The trailer kicks off with Happy Gilmore paying tribute to golf legends Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods – until he stumbles upon his own less-than-flattering bust. “SpongeBob? What is that? What’s with the beaver teeth?” he jokes, setting the stage for a sequel packed with the same irreverent humour fans love.
Sandler reunites with familiar faces, including Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, and Ben Stiller, while a fresh wave of talent joins the fun. Music star Bad Bunny, NFL champion Travis Kelce, and Sandler’s own daughters Sadie and Sunny make their Happy Gilmore debuts. Adding to the authenticity, real-life golf pros John Daly, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Bryson DeChambeau also make appearances, seamlessly blending sports and comedy.
Teasing the film last year, Sandler assured fans it wouldn’t disappoint. “We worked hard on the script. We didn’t want to let anybody down,” he shared on The Tonight Show. “People have been asking me for a long time. We’re really excited about it. We wrote our asses off.” One surprise? A cameo from Eminem, which Sandler described as “funny as hell.”
Despite critics’ mixed reception, Happy Gilmore became a cult classic, pulling in $41.2 million on a $12 million budget and cementing itself as a fan-favourite. The sequel, directed by Kyle Newacheck (Murder Mystery), brings back Tim Herlihy, co-writer of the 1996 original, with Dennis Dugan, the film’s original director, serving as executive producer.
