Share dropped slightly in all dayparts except drive with Tom Elliott where he lifted 0.4 to 13.4%. Ross and Russel have kept a tight grip on breakfast leadership in the market with a share of 22.5%, down only slightly on 22.8 in Survey 8 last year, but up on 22.2% in this survey last year.

Another brilliant start to the year from the FM station nobody can catch at present. The Gold winning streak continues with station share up 1.4 (the biggest move in the market) to 11.5%. That is the third-best result in recent memory after Gold was over 12% twice in 2019 shortly after its British import arrived. Speaking of The Christian O’Connell Show, it remains firmly #1 FM in breakfast on an improved 9.7%, its best-ever result. The Gold daytime team of Huggy, Higgo and Toni continue to entertain a huge audience with FM leading shares in morning, afternoon and drive.

Fox had the biggest jump in cume (+196,000 to 1,153,000) to give it the biggest audience in the market. It was also a survey where all 11 commercial stations grew cume audience. Fox has already equalled its best share last year and the Fifi, Fev and Nick breakfast show has regained ground from the end of last year, up 0.9 to 7.5%. SCA needs this iconic brand to fire and it is back on the radar as #2 FM. Drive with Carrie and Tommy went up, but it ranks #3 FM behind Gold and Nova.

smoothfm has started the year with its seventh share below 8% in the past 14 surveys. In the three years 2017-2019 it only ventured into that territory once. Breakfast managed to lift a little up to 6.5%. Highest-rating daypart is afternoon on 8.2% with morning and weekend over 7%. Strongest demos are 65+ on 9.2% and 55-54 with 8.5%. Cume improved, but it remains one of just two FM stations not recording an audience over 1m.

A big lift 10+ to 7.1% was driven by the breakfast show Chrissie, Sam and Browny adding 1.4 to 7.5%, the show’s second-best result since the pandemic cut into FM breakfast ratings. Drive with Kate, Tim and Joel continues to be the star performer with share up 2.1 to 9.1% where it ranks #2FM behind Gold. Share 40-54 jumped and Nova now ranks equal #3 in the demo with smoothfm.

Breakfast with Jase and Lauren got a nice bump, up 1.4 to 6.4%. That is a better number than the previous five breakfast survey results. Share was also up in morning, afternoon and drive. The new audience has pushed KIIS to #1 18-24 and it is suddenly more competitive 25-39 too, trailing only Fox.

The station posted small growth of 0.2, but breakfast continues to be a challenge with share dipping again to record of its third share of 4.0% or lower in 12 months. The station peaked this survey at 6.4% in afternoon but tumbled to 3.3% in drive for the new Rush Hour. Cume lifted significantly, but Triple M still trails all its FM competitors.

The station has dropped significantly on this time last year and how it ended 2021. With the late return of Garry Lyon in breakfast, the numbers dropped 1.0 to 1.3% leaving Gerrard Whateley and Dwayne Russell the highest-rating broadcasters.

Like the other Ace Radio programmed station in this survey (Magic 1278), the small share is up overall and in breakfast. And like Magic, 3MP also has its biggest share of the audience in evening and on Saturday and Sunday. Magic has a bigger share 65+, but 3MP is a little stronger 55-64.
