3AW and Gold 104.3 on top overall and in breakfast
• 3AW’s Tom Elliott and Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty drive leaders

UP: SEN, 3AW +0.6
DOWN: Nova 100 -1.1

3AW 13.9% (13.3%)

Cume 678,000 (+32,000)
2019 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 15.6% (13.9%)
Best breakfast 20.6% (17.3%)

There might have been a flight to AM news radio this survey, yet by 3AW’s high standards its increase was modest. With a share of 13.9%, the station is on what was its lowest share of all 2019. The last ever share for the duo of Ross and John gives them 17.3% which is their equal lowest for the last four years. Let the record show that the 3AW breakfast show is now on a winning streak lasting 147 surveys and a total of 218 wins. All 3AW timeslots improved as did audience cume.

Gold 104.3 10.7% (10.8%)

Cume: 1,098,000 (-84,000)
2019 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 12.5% (9.0%)
Best breakfast 9.5% (6.8%)

After an outstanding start to the year the station has done it again and has now posted five consecutive surveys in double figures as Melbourne’s #1 FM. Breakfast host Christian O’Connell is now also making a bit of habit of ranking #1 FM breakfast with share up 0.2 to 9.4% giving his show two wins in two surveys this year. Gold remains clear leader 40-54 and 55-64.

smoothfm 91.5 9.7% (9.6%)

Cume: 930,000 (-6,000)
2019 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 11.0% (8.5%)
Best breakfast 9.5% (6.7%)

The station has posted its two best shares this year in the last seven surveys. The biggest movement at the station was evening down 2.0 to 7.9% and weekends up 1.4 to 10.7% where smoothfm has passed Gold.

101.9 Fox FM 8.1% (8.4%)

Cume 1,080,000 (+13,000)
2019 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 10.4% (7.3%)
Best breakfast 10.5% (6.7%)

The second lowest breakfast share ever for Fifi, Fev and Byron sees them on 7.8%. Drive remains the station’s best performing timeslot with Hughesy and Ed on 9.2% (down 0.6). Even though share 25-39 was down 2.3 to 14.5%, Fox remains #1 in the demo.

Nova 100 7.2% (8.3%)

Cume 1,103,000 (+29,000)
2019 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 7.5% (7.1%)
Best breakfast 8.6% (7.5%)

Confusing result perhaps where share was down in all dayparts (except evening) while cume was up. Station is #4 in share but #1 in cume with the biggest audience in Australia. Chrissie, Sam and Browny are again level with Fox as equal #2 FM breakfast. Kate, Tim and Marty held on as #1 FM drive, now narrowly ahead of sister station smoothfm. The station strengthened its share as #1 18-24.

KIIS 101.1 FM 5.9% (6.4%)

Cume 913,000 (+10,000)
2019 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 6.7% (4.8%)
Best breakfast 7.2% (4.9%)

The numbers have backed off a little in share, but look at that cume, still over 900,000, edging higher again this survey. Jase and PJ now have the equal highest share on the station – along with Will and Woody – on 6.8%.

105.1 Triple M 5.0% (5.5%)

Cume 612,000 (+8,000)
2019 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 7.6% (6.2%)
Best breakfast 8.4% (5.5%)

It’s been many years since share dropped this low. Breakfast is also in new territory with a 5.2% a record setter after a recent low of 5.5% last year.

SEN 2.2% (1.6%)

Cume 282,000 (+48,000)
2019 results: Best/worst
Best 10+ 4.5% (2.4%)
Best breakfast 4.8% (2.9%)

No sport, no worries for SEN. Although share didn’t recover totally this survey, the cume audience returned to replace a similar number that went missing in survey one. All dayparts were up with breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson on 2.6% and Gerard Whateley in morning also on 2.6%.

Magic 1278 0.2%

Cume 44,000

The new music format on an old music frequency had to start somewhere. It will be a little disappointing if these numbers aren’t bigger by the time of the next survey in late September.
