• Here comes Gold – Christian O’Connell + dayparts lift
Biggest movers
UP: Gold 104.3 +2.2
DOWN: 3AW -1.3
3AW 13.9% (15.2%): This is the second down survey for the market leader and the second time in succession it has recorded the biggest fall in the market. However 3AW continues to post shares that are better than the corresponding surveys in 2018. This is its lowest share this year and the lowest since this survey in 2018. All timeslots were down with morning and breakfast off 1.3 while evening and weekends were down 2.1. The last official survey for Nightline sees Philip Brady and Simon Owens go out as they have been for many years – #1 in their timeslot.
Gold 104.3 12.0% (9.8%): Stunning result and the best in a long, long time for both the station and breakfast. Christian O’Connell has recorded his best numbers since arrival with 9.5%, trailing Fox by just 0.1. Share was up by 2.0 or more in all other dayparts and on weekends. Gold is also closing in on Fox 25-39, and has increased its lead over everyone else 40-54.
101.9 Fox FM 9.4% (10.2%): The station has been challenged several times for outright leadership this year and this survey sees the station back at #2 again, albeit with a very strong share and cume. Fifi, Fev and Byron manage to hold on as #1 FM, but with a narrow lead of just 0.1 over Gold. As of this survey, Fox is no longer #1 morning or in drive. The biggest demo audience movement was 18-24 where Fox share dipped from 25.0% to 20.4%.
smoothfm 91.5 9.2% (9.4%): Normally a share of 9% or better in a crowded market like Melbourne would have you close to the best, but in this survey smoothfm ranks #3 FM. The station is a model of consistency with 12 of its last 14 surveys over 9%. Breakfast with Mike Perso and Jennifer Hansen grew the most, up 0.6 to 7.5%.
Nova 100 7.2% (7.2%): Breakfast with Chrissie, Sam and Browny was also stable on its share of 8.6%. The morning show with former Fox heavy-hitters Matt Tilley and Troy Ellis remains a work in progress with a share of 4.5% ranking it #6 FM. Kate, Tim and Marty were up 0.4 to 9.3% in drive, yet keep their #3 FM drive ranking.
KIIS 101.1 FM 5.8% (6.7%): The good news for the station and breakfast hosts Jase and PJ has evaporated as quickly as it arrived in survey 5. Although breakfast share is back to 5.8% (-1.4), it remains better than their first three surveys this year. The other big drop at the station was drive where share dipped 1.4 as well, down to 6.2%.
105.1 Triple M 6.2% (6.4%): Although station and breakfast share has hit a new low, both managed to improve their ranking by one place as they climb back above KIIS.
SEN 4.3% (4.5%): Although the numbers have backed off a little from the previous survey, station share is still the second best in close to three years. Breakfast was down 0.5 to 4.3%, which still remains the third best result in nearly three years. The biggest fall was in morning where share backed off 1.2 to 4.1%.
Macquarie Sports 0.3% (0.2%): Still an insignificant number that will no doubt be a useful bonus for some of the 3AW advertisers. Drive managed a good recovery with share up from 0.2% to 0.7%.
