New Zealand radio and outdoor media company, MediaWorks has retained its position as New Zealand’s leading commercial radio network with an audience share of 53.5%.
In the first GfK commercial radio survey for 2022, figures also show MediaWorks has more than 2.44 million people tuning in every week across Aotearoa, an increase of almost 33,000*.
MediaWorks director of content Leon Wratt said it’s fantastic to see MediaWorks increase both its audience share and number of weekly listeners.
“It’s also great to see strong growth for our brands in the commercially important 25-54 demographic. There’s also been a big increase in listening across our music brands in Auckland during breakfast which reflects the return to normal radio listening patterns following last year’s lockdown.
“I’d like to thank our teams across the country for delivering such outstanding results in this first survey of 2022. We’re looking forward to sharing our success with our advertising partners as we work closely with them after a challenging couple of years.
“It’s also clear that radio – whether for information or entertainment – remains a constant in people’s lives with 3.4 million people listening to commercial radio every week, an increase of almost 50,000.”
MediaWorks director of news and talk Dallas Gurney said given the later than expected launch of Today FM, this survey result only includes a couple of weeks of the new station.
“This survey result is almost all Today’s predecessor Magic Talk which means it’s not useful this time around. However we’ve had fantastic feedback since launching in late March and are excited about the platform we’ve built for ratings success in the future. We’re still in the early stages and looking forward to continuing to work hard to build the brand and our audience in the months and years ahead. Bring on Survey 2!”
