Gravity – 8.30pm on Nine
Who decided that Thursday night is the new movie night? Historically, it has never been a night to show movies but clearly Seven and Nine are already short of shows and willing to give anything a go. This Sandra Bullock first run title goes head to head up against a repeat of Captain America: The Winter Soldier on Seven which will be a nice preview for the new Captain America movie which hits cinemas next week. Married At First Sight USA: The First Years – 8.30pm on Lifestyle YOU
Because the American series got two successful “marriages”, this companion series picks up six months later to see how the two couples are faring. We have not been able to follow suit because just one couple (Alex and Zoe) from the first series in Australia are still together so there’s not much of a show in that. And given the way things are going with the second series, they might struggle to keep anyone together there too. [AM]
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert – 12:30am on Ten
With a new executive producer on board this week, The Late Show isn’t wildly different, but it is a lot tighter. The show has Colbert doing a lot more desk pieces, strongly reminiscent of his work from The Colbert Report. If you were a fan of his old Comedy Central show and found the new broadcast TV version of Colbert lacking, this may win you back. [DB]
On The Buses – 2.30am on GEM
In 1971, this big screen spin-off of the TV sitcom was the biggest movie in the UK even outstripping James Bond in Diamonds Are Forever. And it is still the most successful movie made by Hammer Films, despite their domination of the horror market during this period with Christopher Lee’s Dracula franchise and other similar titles. Not surprisingly, two sequels followed, Mutiny On The Buses and Holiday On The Buses. [AM]
