marie claire is set to host the first-ever event for its marie claire Women of the Year Awards at a celebration in Sydney on November 9.
The awards are presented by headline sponsor Kérastase, and supported by sponsors Coach, Sensori+, Mumm, Myer and The Glenlivet.
The Women of the Year Awards celebrate the female game changers, trailblazers, creators and leaders who are driving change and success in Australia.
marie claire first launched its WOTY Awards during the pandemic in 2020, and has since grown the property to become a popular editorial feature, culminating in the naming of Grace Tame and Brittany Higgins as 2021’s Women of the Year.
“With the pandemic largely behind us, we’re thrilled to be able to now transition WOTY into a real-life event so we can honour our finalists in person – with a glass of champagne in one hand and an award in the other,” says marie claire editor Nicky Briger.
“For 27 years, marie claire has promoted and championed women, from the high profile to the lesser-known, who are all making their mark in many fields, including politics, tech, business, sport, social justice, advocacy and the arts. These awards are the perfect extension of what we’ve been doing as a brand for decades.”
The inaugural event, held at Sydney’s Rockpool on November 9, will host many of the finalists and judges, including names like the Honorable Linda Burney MP, Grace Tame, Leah Purcell, Chanel Contos, Grace Forrest, Brooke Boney, Chloé Hayden, Peach PRC, Krew Boylan, and Bianca Spender, to name a few.
There are 10 awards, including Powerhouse of the Year, Changemaker of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, Creative of the Year, Designer of the Year, Advocate of the Year, Champion of the Year, The Eco Warrior, The Rising Star and The Voice of Now.
Kérastase brand engagement manager Abbey Vlahov says: “We’re thrilled to be able to partner with marie claire on this important event. Kérastase is a power brand with the constant vision to empower all women with our tagline, ‘You Dare, We Care’. Partnering with marie claire for Women of the Year is a crucial moment for Kérastase by allowing us to engage with our community and share conversations on issues that matter to us – that is, not just caring for hair, but caring deeply for women in general.”
Adds Briger: “These awards give us the opportunity to recognise the women who are forging real change, and we hope that by publicising their achievements we’ll inspire the next generation of game changers to make a difference.
“I’d like to thank our presenting sponsor Kérastase and all our supporting sponsors for joining us on this journey from day one. They’ve all become true champions of these awards, and we’re looking forward to an inspirational evening on November 9.”
Judges for this year’s WOTY Awards include actor Rose Byrne, Paralympian Madison de Rozario, journalist Melissa Doyle, chef Kylie Kwong, actor/director/writer Nakkiah Lui, CEO and workplace-safety advocate Christine Holgate, politician Tanya Plibersek and psycho-sexologist Chantelle Otten.
Award winners and images from the gala event will feature in the January issue of marie claire.
