Kyle Sandilands has revealed he is “gunning” for his top-rating breakfast radio show with co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson to Melbourne – if changes were ever made to KIIS FM’s breakfast slot in the Victorian capital.
The radio shock jock told the Herald Sun on Saturday that the Kyle and Jackie O show was not “too Sydney” for Melbourne audiences and noted that their show and podcast have strong numbers in the state.
Sandilands added that if he was in charge of KIIS, he would air their biggest product – his show – nationally
“I don’t get upset the (Channel 10 news show) The Project is filmed in Melbourne. You like what you like. It doesn’t matter where it comes from.”
Sandilands noted that he would have already moved to Victoria to conquer the Melbourne breakfast radio market, but his good friend Jason “Jase” Hawkins, one half of the Jase & Lauren breakfast duo on KIIS FM Melbourne.
The shock jock said of Hawkins: “If he ever left, I would make actual threats, ‘If we’re not put into Melbourne, we might vanish somewhere else’. I’m gunning for it.”
Aside from radio, Sandilands has made his return to TV as a judge on Australian Idol, alongside Meghan Trainor, Amy Shark and Harry Connick Jr.
Sandilands also became a first-time father with his fiancée Tegan Kynaston. Together they welcomed a son named Otto who was born in August. At the time, Sandilands was forced to rush off air to be by his fiancée’s side.
Intern Pete (Kyle and Jackie O producer and reporter Peter Deppeler) later spoke to Kyle in the hospital car park after the birth.
The new dad didn’t shy away from giving listeners a graphic retelling of the birth, he said: “Otto’s born, Otto’s fabulous. I cut the cord, I didn’t realise it was like tough calamari and blood squirted out.
“Mum is doing great, he’s happy, he’s up there breastfeeding. I’m watching Karl on the Today show. Everything’s good,” Sandilands added.
