Stan’s Killing It is back for season two and along with it are stars Craig Robinson (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Australian comedian Claudia O’Doherty.
If you’re not familiar with the series, it follows Craig Foster (Robinson), a divorced father and bank security guard, who is hoping to become an entrepreneur. His brother, Isiah (Rel Battle), repeatedly takes part in illegal activities. While Craig tries to get a loan at his own bank, Isiah robs the bank, and Craig is fired from his job, leading him to an encounter with a chaotic Aussie Uber driver, Jillian (O’Doherty) and the South Florida Python Challenge, which changes his life forever.
While at the end of season one, it seems like everything was coming up roses for Craig and Jillian, season two will take many turns.
“Craig and Jillian experience some success in opening their farm and are excited to get the first harvest and get paid,” Robinson told Mediaweek and Chattr’s The Entertainment Hotline Podcast in a pre-recorded interview prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
“And then life takes a turn…and another one, and another one and another one… and another one!” he said.
Why Craig Robinson and Claudia O’Doherty’s partnership works
As for their characters, both have evolved greatly since the pilot episode and the success of their partnership all comes down to one thing. Chemistry.
“We have mad chemistry on screen,” O’Doherty said. “So that’s just like, really great to watch.”
Robinson then added: “These are, at the core, very nice people. And they’re just looking for love like anybody else in the world and they find it in each other in different ways.”
O’Doherty, who also starred in Paramount+ Everyone is Doing Great, also added there were similarities she shared with the character.
“I’m probably a bit less friendly than Jillian in real life just because she’s weirdly friendly. Maybe she could stand to be a bit less friendly. Right?” she said before adding: “And we have the same accent and we both have the same visa problems.”
Craig Robinson and Claudia O’Doherty on their co-stars, the snakes
In terms of the secondary characters in the series, snakes play a huge role — namely because Craig and Jillian are looking to make a quick buck by finding them.
As for whether they’re afraid of the slippery suckers, it turns out Robinson once was, but not anymore.
“I was misled by Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Bible,” he joked, before adding: “I’ve touched them and had them around my neck and stuff and they feel great. It’s almost like a massage when they squeeze around you…”
O’Doherty on the other hand had a very Aussie experience in Primary School.
“There was a Python [brought in] and we to hold it and it started to wrap around my neck, and they had to pull it off… But anyway, I’m not scared of them.” Ha!
