Abbey Gelmi has joined Eddie McGuire as the permanent co-host of ARN’s twice-weekly GOLD Sport, formalising the line-up following Karl Stefanovic’s departure from its predecessor, The Long Weekend.

The program has been renamed GOLD Sport with Eddie & Abbey and will continue to air across the GOLD Network every Monday and Friday from 6pm.

Gelmi, one of Australia’s leading sports presenters and host of the Two Good Sports podcast, will join McGuire to preview and review the biggest stories in sport.

The pair will speak with athletes, coaches and experts about the issues shaping the sporting conversation in Australia and overseas.

Gelmi said she was “thrilled” to join McGuire, describing him as one of the most influential figures in Australian media.

She said the program would tackle the major conversations unfolding on and off the field, while still leaving room for lighter moments.

“I know from my years hosting sport across the country, nothing gets Australians talking like their favourite teams and codes,” Gelmi said.

From The Long Weekend to GOLD Sport

GOLD Sport launched in July after ARN ended The Long Weekend, the weekly news, sport and entertainment program originally hosted by McGuire and Stefanovic.

The Long Weekend launched in June under a multi-platform deal between ARN and Nine, airing across GOLD and iHeart and streaming as a vodcast on 9Now and Stan.

Stefanovic later stood down from the program after Nine moved to terminate his contract following an interview with right-wing activist Tommy Robinson on his independent podcast.

The program ended after five weeks, with McGuire moving into the new twice-weekly sports format. Gelmi’s appointment now completes its permanent on-air line-up.
