Jessica Rowe has rejected a report claiming she and husband Peter Overton are being considered for a fill-in hosting stint on Nine’s Today show.

This week’s New Idea cover suggested the husband-and-wife duo could be sounded out as Nine continues to test potential hosts for the breakfast program.

The magazine reported Samantha Armytage and Tom Steinfort were among the contenders for permanent roles, while Rowe and Overton were being considered as fill-in hosts.

“Jess and Pete would no doubt be a ratings hit because viewers would feel like they’re inviting their favourite couple into the lounge room,” a ‘TV insider’ told the magazine.

“This is the biggest load of rubbish. Normally, I would ignore reading about the jobs that I'm supposedly doing. Jess and Pete take over today.

“Do not believe this. Normally, I would ignore it. However, a number of my otherwise very wise and sensible friends have been in touch enquiring whether Petey and I will be doing the Today Show. The answer is absolutely not.

“Now, the giveaway is the appalling photo they've used. If you look closely, Petey and I look slightly unhinged, and that is because the photo's been flipped around. So our faces are kind of back-to-front.

“That aside, thank you for the lovely messages from people saying what a great idea. Huge love as well to all of the other people who said what a disastrous idea.

“But rest assured, Petey and I will not be doing the Today show together or individually or ever again.”

In a statement to Mediaweek, an Are Media spokesperson said the New Idea story reported on industry speculation, “with the full context provided in the article".
