After co-hosting Paramount’s revival of Top Gear Australia earlier this year, Beau Ryan is returning to host The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition, which premieres at 7:30 pm on 9 September on 10 and 10 Play.
Ryan told Mediaweek that working on Top Gear opened his eyes to how others approach hosting, which in turn helped him on the new season of The Amazing Race.
“The Amazing Race is essentially my show, and I can control the tempo and the links of the show, everything I do is up to me,” he said.
“However working on Top Gear, it was a balancing act, and sometimes it was less is more. I did a lot of listening and working with two other hosts was tricky at times, but I think that improved me all around because I picked up different tips, techniques and skills from the other hosts.
“I watched how they prepare and how they deliver and I think it improved my all-around [hosting] game a lot.”
Australia’s favourite comedians, musicians, reality stars, and sporting legends will put themselves to the ultimate test as they travel the globe facing pit stops, detours and roadblocks, all in the hopes of winning $100,000 for their chosen charity.
Their first stop on the journey will be Buenos Aires where teams will swap 5-star luxury for hustle and bustle.
The new celebrity lineup includes:
• Ian Thorpe & Christian Miranda – childhood mates
• Natalie Bassingthwaighte & Melinda Sheldrick – sisters
• Chloe Logarzo & Emily Gielnik – Matildas teammates
• Pete Helliar & Bridget Helliar – married
• Jett Kenny & Lily Brown – couple
• Luke McGregor & Julie McGregor – son and mother
• Billy Brownless & Oscar Brownless – father and son
• Cyrell Paule & Eden Dally – couple

Ryan finds seeing the amount of effort the contestants put in for their chosen charity the most rewarding aspect of working on the show.
“It’s something I’m very proud of,” he said.
“Going through every contestant’s charities and how it affects them and their personal circumstances I think is really encouraging for people and viewers can see themselves in at least one of the teams when they are sitting at home.”
