Getaway is taking a trip down memory lane for its 30th season special, revealing its top 10 destinations in Australia and around the world on Saturday, May 15, at 5.30pm on Channel Nine and 9Now.
For nearly three decades, the Getaway team have inspired Australians with the magic of travel, earning the title of travel experts and calling on their experience to offer viewers a go-to guide to the world.
Starting with our own backyard, Getaway will take viewers on an armchair ride to Australia’s top 10 must-see destinations.
From Lord Howe Island off the coast of NSW to Mitchell Plateau in the Kimberley region of WA, our oldest tropical rainforest, the Daintree in Queensland, and one of the world’s great wine regions, South Australia’s Barossa Valley, Aussies are spoilt for holiday choice.
Crossing overseas, Getaway’s top 10 international escapes include Palau’s Jellyfish Lake in the western Pacific Ocean, wildlife viewing at Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, Canada’s Icefields Parkway, widely known as the “Drive of a Lifetime”, and the Cinque Terre fishing villages dotted along the Italian Riviera.
The 30th season special will celebrate the travelogue of stories covered over the years on Getaway, encapsulating the world’s natural beauty, cultures and experiences that travellers will again be able to explore once international borders reopen.
John Walsh, executive producer of Getaway for 22 years, said: “Curating these lists wasn’t an easy task as so many destinations come to mind but, between us all, we went through our archive of stories and landed on the 20 destinations we believe best represent the experience of the show and the whole wonderful world of travel.”
Getaway’s achievement in Australian television history continues thanks to the support of its sponsor, Scenic.
