Eddie McGuire announces today is the last episode of The Long Weekend

Today's edition of The Long Weekend podcast will be the program's final broadcast, according to an ARN Media Statement issued on Friday.

McGuire will continue on the GOLD Network with a new twice-weekly program, GOLD SPORT with Eddie McGuire, launching on Friday 24 July. Airing every Friday and Monday from 6pm, the new show will feature McGuire's “take on the biggest stories, personalities and moments in sport.”

"A little bit of news for you. 

"This will be the last edition of The Long Weekend as we know it and have grown to love over the last five weeks… 

“Clearly there has been some lineup changes on this show," he continued, referring to the dramatic recent departure of co-host Karl Stefanovic from Nine.

McGuire added, "For my part though, I am delighted to announce the establishment of GOLD Sport. Twice a week, Fridays and Mondays, I will bring you the biggest names in news, and insights from the world of big-time sport. 

"It only gets bigger and bigger sport, let’s be honest about it. We’ve got the World Cup final coming up this week, the AFL, the NRL… you saw how big the State of Origin was, the Commonwealth Games starts in the next week or so, Rugby Union and Netball. 

"And then think about the build-up and just how massive world sport is now. The National Football League will be coming to town with the Los Angeles Rams coming to Melbourne playing the San Francisco 49ers, then building up to the Superbowl next year at SoFi stadium and then into the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. 

“And what is it all about in sport? It’s all about GOLD. Gold Gold Gold Australia, so welcome everyone to GOLD Sport. Friday and Monday, 6pm on Gold, iHeart and beyond.”
