SBS has announced a new program that doubles as a new entertainment format for the broadcaster, Dishing It Up.
Dishing It Up is a new reality program, best described as Gogglebox meets Masterchef, with the series having everyday Australians putting celebrity chef recipes to the test. The eight-part series follows the attempts of six duo’s inviting cameras into their home kitchens as they attempt to cook dishes from chefs such as Donna Hay, Adam Liaw, Poh Ling Yeow, Miguel Maestre, Matty Matheson and more.
Creator and Series Producer, Michelle Galluzzo of The Precinct said: “Dishing It Up is a cooking show like no other. There’s no competition (other than some healthy couple rivalry), no manufactured drama (apart from the occasional smoke alarm) and no prize (besides bragging rights from the better home cook).
“The beauty of Dishing It Up is that it’s real, raw and relatable – a stark contrast to the perfect, stylised celebrity chef cooking shows we’re used to.”
The home cooks in Dishing It Up span generations, cultures and cooking abilities, with their love of food being the uniting factor. The show’s contestants are an example of the diverse tapestry of Australian families, from high school sweethearts Fiona and Jeremy who bring a unique dual cultural Asian Australian perspective while doting husbands Stefan and Yash will critique even the most acclaimed of celebrity chefs.
Egyptian Mum and daughter, Magda and Sara, will bicker over just about everything, while hipster parents Waz and Jen show us how to botch things up with style. Best friends Anna and Matt always have a cocktail in hand, and friends since school, Jonathan and Hari, round things off with the nerdiest of toilet humour.
SBS Head of Food and Entertainment, Emily Griggs said: “Dishing It Up is a glorious celebration of food and culture. Born out of a passion and desire to entertain, excite and educate Australians on our ever-changing relationship with food.”
Dishing It Up will premiere on Thursday, 29 September at 7.30 pm on SBS, SBS Food and SBS On Demand.
