This week, Carrie Bickmore announced that she would be taking a break from 10’s flagship panel show, The Project, while she and her family temporarily moved overseas.
Bickmore and her husband – Thinkative TV’s Chris Walker – will be taking off with their family to the UK to spend time together before eldest son Ollie moves away.
“We’ve been wanting to do it for a while but lots of reasons, timing hasn’t been right, but we figure it’s never going to be the perfect time to go and it’s something we really want to do before my son starts his final years at school so we’re doing term two in the UK,” Bickmore said on Tuesday. “So I will be off for a couple of months.”
Bickmore will continue to work on her Hit Network drive time radio show with Tommy Little while she is away.
News of her replacement on The Project has come through in the form of two regulars on the panel, Chrissie Swan and Georgie Tunny.
“Friends of The Project, Chrissie Swan and Georgie Tunny, will join hosts Lisa Wilkinson, Waleed Aly, Peter Helliar, Hamish Macdonald and Tommy Little while Carrie Bickmore and her family go on a well-deserved adventure,” a 10 statement read.
Swan currently co-hosts Chrissie, Sam & Browny on Nova 100 with Sam Pang and Jonathan Brown. She has also recently taken up hosting duties on 10’s Australian remake of Would I Lie To You?
Tunny is a reporter for Foxtel’s news streaming service Flash, as host of the daily ‘News Flash’ segments. Previously, Tunny spent eight years working for the ABC.
Swan and Tunny will alternate nights on the desk, joining Waleed Aly and Peter Helliar. The Sunday Project will continue to be helmed by Lisa Wilkinson and Hamish McDonald.
Having joined The Project alongside Charlie Pickering and Dave Hughes when it launched in 2009, Bickmore is the only remaining original host on the show.
