Nine has announced Catriona Rowntree will feature in a new digital-exclusive series, Catriona’s Great Getaways.
Catriona’s Great Getaways is a new video series published exclusively on nine.com.au’s Getaway website and features Rowntree telling never-before-heard stories of her 26-year stint on the travel series.
The TV presenter said: “I’m beyond excited to be sharing so many wonderful memories with nine.com.au.
“Getaway and travel have been two of the greatest gifts of my life, and I have no shortage of stories to tell. Plus some essential tips to take the stress out of holidaying,” she added.
Catriona’s Great Getaways will feature stories of swimming with sharks, being stalked by an elephant, meeting Donald Trump and recounting the moment she thought she would die.
Nine.com.au editorial director Kerri Elstub said: “Our audience loves Catriona and the whole Getaway team. As we start to travel again, Catriona’s insight and expert tips will be in high demand from our audience.”
Rowntree joined Getaway in 1996 and has been a vital part of the travel series, with her adventures taking her to every corner of the world.
Her first role hosting the show was on the Gold Coast visiting Sea World, Movie World and Dreamworld.
“I always thought that for my first Getaway story I’d be cycling through France, maybe I’d be sipping a cocktail somewhere looking elegant and beautiful,” she told 9Now.
“Oh no, I was hired because they were looking for a young girl up on the Gold Coast and they were determined to make me ride every single rollercoaster. They wanted someone who could just go out and have fun.”
“Have I been back to the theme parks? I was there on the weekend. I was riding the rollercoaster on my own. I have a series of photos of my children and I on rollercoasters. I have given birth to these little individuals that love rollercoasters,” Rowntree added.
Catriona’s Great Getaways launches Wednesday August 24 and new episodes are published every Wednesday.
Getaway airs Saturdays 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now
