Box Office: Ticket to Paradise cruises into top spot in debut week

This weekend, the Australian box office made $8.33 million, up 29% on last week’s $6.26 million.

Leading the way at the box office this past weekend was comedy film Ticket to Paradise which claimed the top spot in its first week on screens. Directed by OI Parker, the film grossed over $3 million this past week. 

In second place, DC League of Super-Pets sees Krypto the Super-Dog and Superman as inseparable best friends, sharing the same superpowers and fighting crime in Metropolis side by side. The film grossed over $1.6 million in its first week. 

Also new this week is Universal’s Moonage Daydream which explores the life of English singer-songwriter David Bowie, grossing $388k.

Sony’s Bullet Train starring Brad Pitt placed fourth in the box office charts for a second week bringing in $352k this past weekend.

Psychological horror film, Orphan: First Kill, claimed the fourth spot in its third week. The film serves as a prequel to the 2009 film Orphan and stars Isabelle Fuhrman reprising her role from the previous film.

Falling out of the box office top five this past week were Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva, After Ever Happy and for the first time in 17 weeks, Top Gun: Maverick.

#1, Ticket to Paradise, $3.04 million

Academy Award winners George Clooney and Julia Roberts reunite on the big screen as exes who find themselves on a shared mission to stop their lovestruck daughter from making the same mistake they once made. The film averaged $5,906 across 515 screens.

#2, DC League of Super-Pets, $1.68 million

In its second week, DC League of Super-Pets averaged $4,059 across 414 screens. The 3D superhero comedy is based on the DC Comics superhero team Legion of Super-Pets and stars Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. 

#3, Moonage Daydream, $388,686

Moonage Daydream is a documentary film about English singer-songwriter David Bowie. Written, directed, produced and edited by Brett Morgen, the film uses previously unreleased footage from Bowie’s personal archives, including live concert footage. This past weekend the film averaged $1,735 across 224 screens. 

#4, Bullet Train, $352,328

In its seventh week, Bullet Train, directed by David Leitch averaged $1,387 across 254 screens. In addition to Pitt, the film stars Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, Benito A. Martínez Ocasio, and Sandra Bullock. So far, the action comedy has cashed in over $11.5 million.

 

#5, Orphan: First Kill, $346,152

The sequel to the 2009 film, Orphan brought in an average of $1,812 across 191 screens in its third week on screens. To date, the film has grossed over $2 million.
