This weekend, the Australian box office made $9,571,053, down 19% from last week’s $11,597,209.
Top Five
It’s been touted as a “perfect masterpiece” Roadshow’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is continuing its reign at the Aussie box office, remaining in the top spot for another week. Even though it was down 25% from last week’s $2.4M, movie-goers spent their Summery weekend indoors, bringing in $1.8M. The film, which is the fifth instalment in the franchise, has now made over $17M in Australia.
Coming in at number two for its second musically charged week was Universal’s Trolls Band Together. Bringing in almost $1.48M, the Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick-led film was down 13% and has now brought in $4.7M since its release.
For its third week, Ridley Scott and Sony Pictures’ Napoleon came in at number three taking in just over $1.23M (down 40%) at the local box office. The epic retelling of the military commander’s origins has now taken $9.3M since charging into cinemas.
Making its debut at number four was Sony and Studio Ghibli’s latest animated masterpiece The Boy and the Heron. While Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki’s new film is said to be his last, it came out swinging, bringing in $1.17M for Aussie cinemas.
Taking the number five spot this week was Forum Distribution’s Animal, which is in its second week of release. The flick — which was directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga — took $1M (down 46%) and has now made $4.2M at the local box office.

Other films in the top 10 this week were Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé (debut), Saltburn, Godzilla Minus One (debut), Silent Night and 12.12: The Day.
