Box Office: Ezra Miller’s The Flash sped his way to the top of the box office

The Flash

This weekend, the Australian box office made $12.7 million.

The Flash opening weekend underperformed by DC Universe standards

This weekend, the Australian box office made $12,703,425, down 12% from last week’s $14,428,780.

For its opening weekend, fans sped to the cinemas to see Ezra Miller’s The Flash bringing in $3.8 million nationally and $130.1 million globally. However, despite the hype surrounding the film — with the reappearance of Michael Keaton’s Batman — it was still considered a slow start, underperforming by DC Universe standards. The dimension-hopping film stars Miller and Keaton alongside Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú and Kiersey Clemons.

It was the third weekend for Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse with comic fans still flying into cinemas to watch the animation. The film brought in $2.9 million nationally, down 53%.

Coming in third for its first week in cinemas was Walt Disney’s Elemental. The film recorded the second-lowest debut in the history of Pixar, bringing in $1.5 million nationally.

For its fourth week in cinemas, Walt Disney’s The Little Mermaid came in third. The live-action remake of the 1989 film has proven that it’s still popular, bringing in $1.3 million, down 55%.

Then, Forum Distribution’s Adipurush came in fourth bringing in just over $763,000 for its debut weekend.

Falling out of the top five this weekend was Walt Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, Universal’s Fast X, Walt Disney’s The Boogeyman, Sony’s John Farnham: Finding the Voice and Sony’s Your Hurt My Feelings (debut).
