This weekend, the Australian box office made $8.14 million, down 18% from last week’s $10.32 million.
Topping the box office charts in its opening week was Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The film brought in over $2.3 million and continues the story of teenage Billy Batson, who, upon reciting the magic word “SHAZAM!” is transformed into his adult Super Hero alter ego, Shazam.
Falling from first to second is the latest instalment in the Scream franchise, Scream VI, grossing over $1.4 million. Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.
In its third week, Creed III, grossed over $2 million across 313 screens. As the third instalment in the Creed franchise, the latest film centres on Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) as he thrives in his career and family life after dominating the boxing world.
Coming in at fourth in its second week, Sony’s 65 brought in over $600k. Starring Adam Driver, the film centres on a pilot who crashes on an unknown planet, which turns out to be Earth during the Cretaceous period.
In its opening week, Living starring Bill Nighy, pulled in over $460k. Set in 1952 London, the film follows Williams, a veteran civil servant, who has become a small cog in the bureaucracy of rebuilding post-WWII England.
Falling out of the top five this weekend was Walt Disney’s Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and horror film, Cocaine Bear.
#1 Shazam! Fury of the Gods, – $2.32 million
Starring Zachary Levi and Asher Angel, the film averaged 4,667 across 498 screens and has received mixed reviews so far.
#2 Scream VI, – $1.4 million
The latest instalment in the slasher film franchise stars Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, and Courteney Cox. In its second week, Scream VI averaged $4,091 across 347 screens and has grossed over $5 million so far.
#3 Creed III, – $1.04 million
When a childhood friend of Creed and former boxing prodigy, Damian (Jonathan Majors), resurfaces after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. The face-off between former friends is more than just a fight. Creed III is the third instalment in the franchise and is Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut. The film averaged $3,333 across 313 screens, and has averaged $7.7 million so far.
#4 65 – $604,958
After a catastrophic crash on an unknown planet, pilot Mills quickly discovers he’s actually stranded on Earth — 65 million years ago. Directed by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, the film averaged $2,003 across 302 screens, bringing in $2,12 million to date.
#5 Living – $464,828
The main character of the film learns he has a fatal illness as paper piles up on his desk. He begins his quest to find some meaning to his seemingly grey, monotonous life before it slips away. The film averaged $2,459 across 189 screens.
