This weekend, the Australian box office made $10,274,719, up 2% from last week’s $9,944,716.
Paramount’s PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie had families donning their pawfect best and heading to the cinemas over the weekend. The family-friendly flick debuted in the number-one spot this week, proving it really is “showtime”! Unleashing its superpowers on cinema-goers, the film took $1.3 million at the Aussie box office.
Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem had kids yelling “Turtle Power” once again for its third week in cinemas. The film took $1.2 million, up 18% with the greenified film coming in at number two, no doubt a bump thanks to the school holidays.
For its third week in cinemas, Warner Bros.’ The Nun II was sent back into the third spot, with the visceral demonic carnage bringing in just over $1 million, down 24% from last week.
Then, sitting at number four for its second week in cinemas was superhero flick Warner Bros.’ Blue Beetle, which took $914k, down 19% from its debut.
For the third week in a row, fans reunited with members of the Portokalos family in Greece for Universal’s My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3. The flick, which came in at number five, brought in $886k, down 20% from the previous week.
Falling out of the top five this weekend were Walt Disney’s A Haunting in Venice, Sony’s The Equaliser III, Universal’s Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (debut), Warner Bros. Barbie and StudioCanal’s Retribution (debut).
#1 PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie – $1,399,132
The PAW Patrol pups magically gain superpowers after a meteor strikes Adventure City. However, things take a turn for the worse when Humdinger and a mad scientist steal their powers and turn themselves into supervillains. As the team springs into action to save the city, Skye soon learns that even the smallest pup can make the biggest difference. The film grossed $1,399,132, averaging $4,775 over 293 screens.
#2 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem – $1,214,260
After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers. Their new friend, April O’Neil, helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them. The all-star cast includes Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Brady Noon and Nicolas Cantu. The film grossed $1,214,260, averaging $3,059 over 397 screens and has made $5,550,204 in Australian cinemas to date.

In 1956 France, a priest is violently murdered, and Sister Irene begins to investigate. She once again comes face-to-face with a powerful evil. The film grossed $1,058,568, averaging $3,950 over 268 screens and has made $5,993,777 in Australian cinemas to date.
#4 Blue Beetle – $914,789
Jaime Reyes suddenly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology called the Scarab. When the Scarab chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he’s bestowed with an incredible suit of armour that’s capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero Blue Beetle. The film grossed $914,789, averaging $2,667 over 343 screens and has made $2,574,285 in Australian cinemas to date.
#5 My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 – $886,117
Toula (Nia Vardalos), along with her husband (John Corbett), her brother (Louis Mandylor) and her Aunt Voula (Andrea Martin), among others, are headed to Greece for a family reunion. The trip also gives Toula the chance to fulfil one of her father’s last wishes: to present his childhood diary to a long-lost old friend. The film grossed $886,117, averaging $2,677 over 331 screens and has made $5,185,809 in Australian cinemas to date.
