This weekend, the Australian box office made $11.07 million, up 31% from last week’s $8.4 million.
Topping the box office charts in its opening week was John Wick: Chapter 4 with $6.4 million. In the fourth instalment of the John Wick series, Wick (Keanu Reeves) takes on his most lethal adversaries yet as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris to Osaka to Berlin.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods fell to second in its second week on screen. The film brought in less than $1 million and continues the story of teenage Billy Batson, who, upon reciting the magic word “SHAZAM!” is transformed into his adult Super Hero alter ego, Shazam.
Falling from second to third is the latest instalment in the Scream franchise, Scream VI, grossing over $771k. Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind to start a fresh chapter but cannot escape Ghostface’s wrath.
In its fourth week, Creed III, grossed over $500k across 249 screens. As the third instalment in the Creed franchise, the latest film centres on Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) as he thrives in his career and family life after dominating the boxing world.
In its second week, Living starring Bill Nighy, pulled in over $300k. Set in 1952 London, the film follows Williams, a veteran civil servant who has become a small cog in the bureaucracy of rebuilding post-WWII England.
Falling out of the top five this weekend was Sony’s 65, starring Adam Driver.
#1 John Wick: Chapter 4, – $6.42 million
Four years after John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, director Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves have returned to theatres with the latest instalment. The film averaged $11,854 across 542 screens in its opening week.
#2 Shazam! Fury of the Gods, – $964,578
Starring Zachary Levi and Asher Angel, the film averaged $2,748 across 542 screens and has grossed over $3.6 million so far.
#3 Scream VI, – $771,920
The latest instalment in the slasher film franchise stars Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, and Courteney Cox. In its third week, Scream VI averaged $2,747 across 277 screens and has grossed over $6.16 million so far.
#4 Creed III, – $534,486
When a childhood friend of Creed and former boxing prodigy, Damian (Jonathan Majors), resurfaces after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. The face-off between former friends is more than just a fight. Creed III is the third instalment in the franchise and is Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut. The film averaged $2,147 across 249 screens and has averaged $8.53 million so far.
#5 Living – $336,349
The main character of the film learns he has a fatal illness as paper piles up on his desk. He begins his quest to find some meaning to his seemingly grey, monotonous life before it slips away. The film averaged $1,828 across 184 screens and has grossed $1.6 million so far.
