This weekend, the Australian box office made $11.26 million, down 1% from last week’s $11.38 million.
Moving its way into the top spot after the past two weeks at #2 is Warner Bros’ DC League of Super-Pets. Starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, the film tells the story of Superman’s pet dog Krypto and shelter dog Ace, who work with other animals to save the captured superheroes from Lex Luthor and Lulu. To date, the film has brought in over $13 million.
Sliding down to second in its third week was Ticket to Paradise starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts. Despite the plot set in Bali, the Ol Parker-directed film was filmed in Queensland. This past weekend, the film grossed over $1.92 million, a -33% fall from the week before.
Paramount+ came in third with its horror film Smile. Written and directed by Parker Finn, the film stars Sosie Bacon as a therapist who, after witnessing the bizarre suicide of a patient, goes through increasingly disturbing and daunting experiences, leading her to believe what she is experiencing is supernatural.
Grossing over $1 million this past weekend was Indian film Ponniyin Selvan: I. The period action drama has so far become the 14th highest-grossing Tamil film of all time.
In fifth place this past weekend was Walt Disney’s See How They Run. The mystery comedy film directed by Tom George takes place in the West End of 1950s London and sees plans for a movie version of a smash-hit play come to an abrupt halt after a pivotal member of the crew is murdered.
Falling out of the box office top five this past week were Paramount’s Paws Of Fury: The Legend Of Hank starring Michael Cera, Samuel L. Jackson and Ricky Gervais, Roadshow’s Fall – a survival thriller film directed and co-written by Scott Mann and the 2013 Avatar re-release.
#1, DC League of Super-Pets, $2.78 million
In its third week, DC League of Super-Pets averaged $6,416 across 434 screens. The 3D superhero comedy is based on the DC Comics superhero team Legion of Super-Pets and stars Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. The film has grossed $13.07 million to date.
#2, Ticket to Paradise, $1.925 million
Academy Award winners George Clooney and Julia Roberts reunite on the big screen as exes who find themselves on a shared mission to stop their lovestruck daughter from making the same mistake they once made. The film averaged $4,719 across 408 screens. The film has grossed $10.98 million to date.
#3, Smile, $1.12 million
The horror film averaged $5,057 across 220 screens.
#4, Ponniyin Selvan: I, $1.096 million
In its first week, Ponniyin Selvan: I averaged $9,535 across 115 screens.
