Bullet Train starring Brad Pitt, has pulled into the top spot in its first week on screens. The action comedy film centres around Pitt as an unlucky assassin determined to do his job peacefully after one too many gigs gone off the rails. His latest mission puts him on Japan’s fastest train with a crew of other assassins that eventually find their fate.
For the first time in four weeks, Thor: Love and Thunder has fallen off its #1 position, sliding to the #2 spot. The action superhero movie, which stars Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, has grossed over $41 million to date.
Where The Crawdads Sing slips from #2 to #3 in its third week on screens, bringing in a total of $1.14 million this past weekend. The murder-mystery film is based on the 2018 novel of the same name and was produced by Reese Witherspoon.
Top Gun: Maverick, the third top-grossing film of all time in Australia, has fallen from third to fourth in its eleventh week at the cinemas. The film has grossed over $86 million to date.
Warner Bros’. Elvis just made the top five this past weekend, grossing $841k over the week.
Falling out of the top five for the first time in six weeks is Minions: The Rise of Gru, starring Steve Carell. The animated film has grossed over $41 million to date.
#1, Bullet Train, $3.15 million
In its debut week, Bullet Train, directed by David Leitch averaged $5,219 across 605 screens to bring in over $3 million. In addition to Pitt, the film stars Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, Benito A. Martínez Ocasio, and Sandra Bullock.
#2, Thor: Love and Thunder, $1.18 million
Hemsworth leads the star-studded cast as Thor alongside Natalie Portman, Taika Waititi, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander and Russell Crowe. The film made an average of $3,157 across 376 screens and has brought in a total of $41 million to date.
#3. Where The Crawdads Sing, $1.14 million
Based on the 2018 novel by Delia Owens, Where The Crawdads Sing has continued to maintain traction in its third week on screens. The film tells the story of Kya, an abandoned girl who raised herself to adulthood in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. Where The Crawdads Sing averaged $2,888 across 397 screens this weekend and has grossed a total of $7.35 million.
#4, Top Gun: Maverick, $881,780
Tom Cruise stars alongside Jennifer Connelly, Val Kilmer, Miles Teller, Glen Powell and Jon Hamm, in the sequel to the original 1986 film. The film averaged $3,127 across 282 screens and has grossed over $86 million, making it the third highest-grossing movie of all time in Australia.
#5, Elvis, $1.24 million
Austin Butler stars as Elvis Presley in the biographical musical drama based on the life of the King of Rock and Roll, directed by Baz Luhrmann. In the seven weeks since its debut at the Australian box office, the biopic has grossed $30.1 million to date. This past weekend, the film averaged $2,696 across 312 screens.
