This weekend, the Australian box office made $7.07 million, down -22% from last week’s $9.02 million.
In its third week, Warner Bros’ Black Adam has maintained its top spot at the box office, bringing in $2.24 million. The 11th instalment in the DC Extended Universe stars Dwayne Johnson (who also served as a producer) as the titular character alongside Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan.
Maintaining its #2 spot for a second week is Universal’s Mrs Harris Goes to Paris. The comedy-drama tells the story of a war-widowed cleaning lady in 1950s London who falls madly in love with a couture Dior dress. The film is based on the novel Mrs Arris Goes to Paris by Paul Gallico and stars Academy Award nominee Lesley Manville.
In its debut week, Madman’s One Piece Film: Red has placed third, bringing in over $700k. The Japanese anime film is the fifteenth feature film of the One Piece film series, based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda.
Falling to #4 was the Paramount+ horror film Smile. Written and directed by Parker Finn, the film stars Sosie Bacon as a therapist who, after witnessing the bizarre suicide of a patient, goes through increasingly disturbing and daunting experiences, leading her to believe what she is experiencing is supernatural. This past weekend, the film grossed -22% less than last week with $460k.
Sony’s The Woman King fell to fifth, grossing $259k. The film tells the story of the Agojie, the all-female warrior unit that protected the West African kingdom of Dahomey during the 17th to 19th centuries. Set in the 1820’s, it stars Viola Davis as a general who trains the next generation of warriors to fight their enemies.
Falling out of the box office top five this week was Don’t Worry Darling, which stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles.
1, Black Adam, $2.24 million
Black Adam is a superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name. Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the powers of the Egyptian gods and imprisoned just as quickly, Black Adam is freed from his tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world. In its third week, the film averaged $4,505 across 498 screens. So far, the film has grossed $15.81 million.
#2, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, $1.2M
This historical comedy-drama is the third film adaption of the 1958 novel Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Paris. Mrs. Harris sets off to Paris to buy her very own designer gown and in the process finds a whole new outlook on life. In its second week, the film averaged $3,184 across 377 screens and had grossed $4.3 million to date.
#3, One Piece Film: Red, $723k
Renowned for concealing her own identity when performing, Uta’s voice has come to be described as “otherworldly.” Now, for the first time ever, Uta will reveal herself to the world at a live concert. In its first week, the film averaged $4,112 across 176 screens.
#4, Smile, $374k
Smile is a 2022 psychological horror film written and directed by Parker Finn (in his feature directorial debut), based on his 2020 short film Laura Hasn’t Slept. The film averaged $1,837 across 204 screens, bringing in $7.9 million to date.
#5, The Woman King, $359k
Coming in fifth, the film was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and written by Dana Stevens. In its second week, The Woman King averaged $1,184 across 3304 screens.
