• New program covering UK Ashes Tour starts Sunday
Authentic Entertainment and Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) joint venture with The Hayden Way, The Get Outside Group has announced the launch of a cricket radio show for the Ashes and One Day International cricket series.
Willow Talk, hosted by Australian Cricket legends Matthew Hayden, Mark Waugh and fellow UK larrikin master-spinner Graeme Swann, will entertain audiences in Australia over the Ashes and ODI period. The show will run on 52 radio stations nationally across SCA’s Triple M and Local Works networks.
Unlike other cricket shows, Willow Talk is not a technical appraisal of the game. Instead it will reflect what’s going on with the Australian Tour of England and show off the many other talents of Haydos, Junior and Swanny.
Strong opinion together with special guests, great stories and a bit of in-show sledging and fun will be the order of the day – you will learn a lot more about these three and their cricketing and sporting star mates every show.
Nik Robinson, director of broadcast content at Authentic Entertainment, which is producing the show in association with the Get Outside Group said: “You couldn’t ask for better talent. If you think the Australia and England rivalry is extreme on the field, just wait till you hear the radio show. We have given the guys free rein so expect sledging, great cricketing insights and untold stories. No doubt there will be controversy but that’s what makes good radio!”
Matthew Hayden, Director of the Get Outside Group, said: “It’s been great to get some of my cricketing mates together to do this show. I captained Swanny when I was playing county cricket in England and he’s a real surprise packet away from the ground. I played along side Junior in a very successful Australian team. Funnily enough we’ve all been a part of Ashes winning teams, so doing the show is a great opportunity and we won’t hold back on telling it like it is as well as having a bit of a laugh”
Willow Talk is the fourth radio show launched by Authentic Entertainment this year and is the first sports show the company has produced in more than 20 years. It signals a new landmark for Authentic as it continues to spearhead new innovations in radio content.
The two hour show will air across Australia via the Triple M and Local Works networks on Sunday mornings between 9 and 11am, kicking off on Sunday 5 July.
