The race to become the Australian Idol intensified overnight as Bony Onyango and Hannah Waddell were eliminated, leaving just eight contestants vying for the title.
The public vote sealed their fate in what hosts Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie described as one of the tightest rounds in Idol history.

A night of high stakes and powerhouse performances
Ahead of the results, the Top 10 delivered a high-energy group performance of Praising You by Rita Ora, setting the stage for a tense elimination. The bottom four – disco diva Hannah (WA), progressive auto-tune artist Bony (QLD), country singer Jake Whittaker (QLD), and John Van Beek (QLD) – were left fighting for their place.
The sing-off saw Jake embrace his country-rock roots with Simply the Best, Hannah bring classic disco energy with I Will Survive, Bony showcase his unique artistry on I Don’t Care, and John win over the crowd with Breakeven. But in the end, Hannah and Bony’s journeys came to an end, despite praise from the judging panel.

Judges reflect on an emotional farewell
The eliminations left Marcia Hines, Kyle Sandilands, and Amy Shark stunned, particularly over Hannah’s exit. “You have one of the strongest voices we have ever seen in Idol,” Amy declared.
Kyle encouraged her to take the next step in her career: “Get yourself a booking agent. I would book you for a party, a wedding, or corporate gigs. Go and start your career!” Hannah remained optimistic, saying, “This is not the end.”
Bony, known for his distinctive style, took his elimination in stride. “Thank you for how you guys received me. It’s been super dope – I guess we’ll see you guys on the other side.” Kyle reassured him: “You are an artist. Sail forward, my friend, and go get your dream.” Amy added, “I’m not worried about you at all – tomorrow you’ll be back in the studio.”
With the competition heating up, the Top 8 now set their sights on winning over both the judges and the Australian public as they edge closer to the Idol crown.
