U2 debut this week at #3 with Songs Of Surrender

Touring country music star Morgan Wallen hits #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart this week with One Day At A Time, as the album’s single Last Night climbs to a new peak of #3 on the Singles Chart.

One Day At A Time reaches the top spot in its third week on the Albums Chart, coinciding with the US artist’s Australian tour. One of his support acts, HARDY, had a hit in the US with Wait In The Truck, featuring Lainey Wilson.

One Day At A Time is Wallen’s third studio album, hitting #1 in the US earlier this month, and landing the biggest opening week numbers of 2023 for any album by units earned and the fifth-largest streaming week ever. All 36 tracks hit the Billboard 100 in its first week, breaking the record for most songs by an artist on the chart at one time, as well as the record for most debuts on the chart, with 27 (nine of the 36 tracks had already charted).

U2, one of the most successful bands in modern music history, also make a debut this week at #3 with Songs Of Surrender: a 40 track album of re-recorded songs from their back catalogue, many with newly stripped down and acoustic renditions.

It is their 18th top 10 album in Australia, stretching back to War  in 1983. The band has 11 #1 albums here ranging from The Unforgettable Fire  in 1984 to  No Line On The Horizon in 2009.

On the Singles Chart, Miley CyrusFlowers clocks its 10th straight week at #1. It’s the longest-running #1 single since Elton John and Dua Lipa’s  Cold Heart (PNAU remix) spent 10 non-consecutive weeks at the top in late 2021 and early 2022. It is still charting, at #33 this week.

The last song to spend 10 or more consecutive weeks at #1 was Stay by The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber, which claimed the top spot for 14 weeks in 2021. It is also still charting, at #34 this week.

The arrival last week of four previously unreleased tracks by Taylor Swift sees her former #1, Anti-Hero, rebound from #10 last week to #8. One of the new tracks,  All Of The Girls You Loved Before, debuts at #18.
