Stay by Australia’s The Kid Laroi and Canada’s Justin Bieber holds #1 on the ARIA singles chart for an eleventh straight week. Other singles to have spent the same amount of time at #1 include Bryan Adams’ Everything I Do (I Do It For You) in 1991, Spice Girls’ Wannabe in 1996/97, Drake’s God’s Plan in 2018, The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights in 2020, and 24kGoldn’s Mood in 2020.
As Lil Nas X’s debut album MONTERO hits #1 this week, the American pop-rap hits a new peak at #4 with Industry Baby, one spot above its previous high. There are three tracks from MONTERO in this week’s top ten: That’s What I Want debuts at #7, and the album’s title track has jumped back up ten spots to sit at #9.
A week on from debuting at #27, Meet Me At Our Spot by American duo The Anxiety climbs ten spots to hit #17. It takes the single one spot higher than the peak reached by group member Willow Smith’s Whip My Hair, which hit #18 in January 2011.
Nigerian singer/songwriter CKay makes his ARIA top 50 debut with Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah) at #23. First released in 2019, the track has picked up pace in the last year thanks to TikTok and a number of remixes, charting across Europe, plus Canada, New Zealand and Singapore.
Continuing the release of re-recordings of her back catalogue, Taylor Swift debuts at #28 with Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version). It’s an update of the track from album chart topper 1989, with the track peaking at #3 in September 2015.
Also breaking into the top 50 this week are Obsessed With You by Central Cee at #41 and Fancy Like by Walker Hayes at #50.
At #15 on this week’s chart, this week marks 50 weeks in the top 50 for Levitating by Dua Lipa.
Albums
American star Lil Nas X debuts at #1 on the ARIA albums chart with MONTERO. It’s the first album from the pop-rap artist, who first rose to prominence when Old Town Road spent 13 weeks at #1 on the singles chart in 2019. It becomes his second entry on the albums chart, having made his debut with 7 EP in July 2019. MONTERO includes three top ten singles: Montero (Call Me By Your Name), Industry Baby, and That’s What I Want. The album features appearances from Elton John, Doja Cat, Jack Harlow, Megan Thee Stallion and Miley Cyrus.
The highest-ranking Australian album sits at #2 this week as Melbourne duo Vika and Linda score their third top two debut in two years as they release The Wait. The seventh studio album from the Bull sisters is their first album of originals since 2002’s Love Is Mighty Close. It includes tracks written by Bernard Fanning, Don Walker, Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers, Augie March’s Glenn Richards, The Living End’s Chris Cheney and more.
Spiritbox makes their first appearance in the ARIA top ten as they debut at #8 with Eternal Blue. Formed in 2016, the Canadian metalcore band released two EPs prior to their debut album.
Hammond organ and whammy clavinet maestro Lachy Doley hits the chart at #13 with the live album Studios 301 Sessions. Recorded across two sets at the famed Sydney recording facility, the album features performances from Mahalia Barnes and Karen Lee Andrews, as well as a 14 piece band. Doley’s only other top 50 entry was with Lovelight at #40 in January 2017.
K-pop group NCT 127 take out their first ARIA top 50 entry as they debut at #16 with Sticker. The boy band’s third Korean-language studio album (and fourth album overall) comes 18 months on from previous album, Neo Zone. NCT 127 are a nine-member sub-unit of the group NCT, which contains 23 members.
