Singles
No change at the top of the singles chart this week – in fact the top six places were locked in cement with just one newcomer in the top 10 – Maroon 5’s “Don’t Wanna Know” featuring Kendrick Lamar climbed from #11 to #9 in its third week. Not only is James #1 for a fourth week, he has his second album top 10 too.
It is certainly harder getting out of the top 10 than it is getting in – four songs in the top 10 have now been in the chart for more than 12 weeks each.
Just two new entries into the top 50 in their first week on the chart with Guy Sebastian the star performer, although he might have preferred a higher debut for “Set In Stone” than #29.
Rag’n’Bone Man just snuck into the top 50 with “Human” new at #48.
New into the top 50 from lower down the chart were:
#61 to #45 Starley with “Call On Me”
#57 to #46 Cashmere Cat with “Trust Nobody” featuring Selena Gomez & Tory Lanez
Albums
Three new entries landed in the top 10 and a further six made the top 50 on debut but none were able to unseat Jessica Mauboy as “The Secret Daughter” spent a third week at #1. This is the first time any album has spent three weeks on top this year.
Michael Bublé’s “Nobody But Me” has climbed one spot to #2 while the Elvis Presley album “The Wonder Of You” is also up a spot to #3.
Dropping out of the top five is Lady Gaga with “Joanne” down from #2 to #6 in its second week.
New chart entries that landed in the top 10 are:
#4 Avenged Sevenfold with “The Stage” – third time top 10 for Californian metal band
#7 Empire Of The Sun with “Two Vines” – the electronic duo’s third album after “Walking On A Dream” (peaked at #6 in 2009) and “Ice On The Dune” ( peaked at #3 in 2013)
#8 James Arthur with “Back From The Edge” – his second album after his first peaked at #14 exactly three years ago
This week’s other top 50 new arrivals are:
#12 Roy Orbison with “The Ultimate Collection”
#19 Kenny Chesney with “Cosmic Hallelujah”
#20 Tkay Maidza with “Tkay”
#21 Tove Lo with “Lady Wood”
#24 Testament with “Brotherhood of the Snake”
#50 A$AP Mob with “Cozy Tapes: Volume 1 Friends”
A couple of predictable, but nonetheless welcome, re-entries into the top 50 due to tours, reforms and Xmas fever!
John Farnham’s “The Complete Whispering Jack 30th Anniversary” package sees the hit album at #22 in its 139th week on the chart. And get this – the album has reached platinum status 24 times!
Michael Bublé’s “Christmas” sees the 13 times platinum album re-enter at #43 while the two times platinum Crowed House compilation “The Very Best of Crowded House” is back at #48. Surprisingly the album has never cracked the ARIA top 10 after 150 weeks on the chart.
