Prime Video has announced that Alex Bain, from Queensland, has snagged the Prime Video Buff job following a national wide search. Bain, the inaugural Prime Video Buff, will be spending the next three months over summer immersed in Prime Video’s catalogue, watching and then recommending content to Australians via the streaming service’s social platforms – all while being paid $40K.
Bain is no novice when it comes to recommending movies and TV shows, currently sharing one-minute movie reviews on her TikTok and Instagram channels. The 36-year-old credits her love for TV and film to her childhood upbringing with her mum and sister, a family who religiously went to the local Brisbane video store each week for the latest releases, thrillers, and family favourites.
“I grew up in the era of the E.T. and Indiana Jones films – this magical time of cinema that fuelled a healthy escapism during my childhood. Very early on I wanted to be part of the world of film and TV, and that kicked off my course in film and communications. The Prime Video Buff role is literally my dream job and I’m proud to be joining the Australian team for this once in a lifetime role. It’s like this job was made for me!”
Bain will get access to the latest Prime Video content before anyone else and red-carpet events. She’ll also become a fixture on Prime Video’s social platforms where she’ll put her knowledge and passion for entertainment to use, helping Australians decide what to watch next. With tens of thousands of titles on Prime Video, Bain’s role has been created to further help customers discover something new to watch.
Alongside a panel of experts, presenter and podcaster Osher Günsberg lent his entertainment expertise to the Prime Video Buff campaign, helping to select the best candidate for the job.
“Alex immediately captured our attention through the Prime Video Buff judging process,” said Günsberg. “The team knew the role would be coveted, however we were blown away with the volume of applicants and talent across the country. Alex is creative and confident with bucket loads of charisma, and most of all, she is entertainment-obsessed. From Alex’s audition video, she included countless entertainment references, and could quite possibly be the most well-versed person in entertainment in all of Australia. Her bang-on impersonations were just an added bonus! Almost immediately we knew we had found – dare I say it – the one!”
The role comes as recent research from Prime Video revealed that the average Aussie has watched 67 movies and TV series this year alone. The research also found that 83% of Aussies say they enjoy the content recommended by real people.
