ABC Radio Sydney and ABC Radio Canberra Evenings has announced Indira Naidoo will be taking over as host next year.
Naidoo will replace Sarah Macdonald who will be hosting a new extended Mornings show.
The broadcaster and author currently hosts national Weekend Nightlife. She said she is looking forward to the move and taking charge of one of the most iconic segments on the show – the Evenings Quiz, which has been running since the 1980s.
“I can’t wait to get to know my audience better and build on the tremendous work done by Sarah. After the last few years, we’ve all grown to understand the importance of grass-root community and connection and no-one does that better than ABC Radio,” Naidoo said.
ABC Radio Sydney manager, Steve Ahern, said he was sure audiences across NSW and the ACT would be delighted with Indira’s company each evening.
“It’s a little-known fact that Indira was part of the small team of advertising creatives who came up with Sydney’s VIVID Festival concept in 2009. Her grassroots involvement with the city doesn’t end there, for the past 13 years she has also been a passionate ambassador for The Wayside Chapel, as part of the work she does to support the community,” Ahern shared.
Naidoo has hosted and reported for the ABC’s Late Edition nightly news and SBS’s World News Tonight. She also hosted three seasons of Filthy Rich and Homeless on SBS and was the media manager at Choice, creating the annual Shonky Awards.
Naidoo has worked for the United Nations and is an ambassador for the Wayside Chapel. She has also published two books, The Edible Balcony and The Edible City.
Ahern confirmed that ABC Radio Sydney producer/presenter Suzanne Hill, will replace Indira on Weekend Nightlife, completing the station’s line up for 2023.
“Suzanne is well-know to the Nightlife audience, having produced and filled in on air often over the past few years. I look forward to the new approach she will bring to the show,” he said.
Hill said of her new role: “After working on the Nightlife program for 12 years as executive producer and fill- in presenter, I feel like it’s now part of my DNA and I can’t wait to be working alongside Philip Clark to entertain Australia’s night owls.”
After leaving Adelaide in 1996, Suzanne has been in front of and behind the mic in Tamworth, Wollongong, Port Macquarie, Bundaberg, Albury-Wodonga, Mildura, Broken Hill and Port Pirie. In 2008 she made her permanent home in Sydney, where she has been executive producer of Nightlife for most of that time.
