Filming for the second season of ABC’s food-filled comedy Aftertaste has begun in Adelaide.
Featuring Erik Thomson as celebrity chef Easton West, and Natalie Abbott as his niece and pastry chef Diana, the first season of the show was loved by audiences and critics alike.
Star and co-producer Thomson said: “I’m so thrilled to be heading back to the beautiful Adelaide Hills for another season of Aftertaste. It’s a privilege to work with Closer Productions and the ABC, as we deconstruct our relationship with food and fame, through the antics of the dysfunctional West family.”
An exceptional ensemble cast will once again include Rachel Griffiths (Total Control), Wayne Blair (The Sapphires), Susan Prior (Glitch, Frayed), Remy Hill Spider-Man: Far from Home), Kavitha Anandasivam (The Tourist) and Justin Amankwah (Fat Pizza vs Housos).
Joining the cast for season two is Lynette Curran (Cleverman: A Few Less Men), Julian Maroun (The Secrets She Keeps) and Syd Brisbane (Stateless).
The first season of Aftertaste, which aired in 2021, follows the story of volatile celebrity chef, Easton West, who flees back to his hometown after copping flack over a viral video and tries to reinvent himself. He finds himself forming an unlikely partnership with his 19-year-old niece, pastry chef prodigy Diana.
The show premiered to critical acclaim in February 2021 and made history as the first major production to shoot in South Australia after the first major lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The South Australian Film Corporation CEO, Kate Croser, said: “We are delighted to welcome the return of Closer Productions’ Aftertaste for a second season, and celebrate the continuation of this wonderful home-grown ABC primetime comedy commission.”
Season two will show Easton West’s life living outside of the public eye, concentrating on becoming a better man. His new-found peace is shattered when niece Diana returns to Adelaide, flaunting her successful career. Both must put their troubles aside when a secret from the past throws the West family into more chaos than ever.
Aftertaste will be filmed across Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills region and will premiere later this year on ABC and ABC iView.
