The ABC board and leadership team will hold the corporation’s first community forum in Alice Springs on 4 July 2017.
The event, which is one of three forums that will be held in regional Australia this year, is designed to bring the community together to share ideas about the future direction of the ABC.
New ABC chairman Justin Milne said that he was looking forward to the forum and to meeting with the local community.
“The ABC Community Forum provides a valuable opportunity for the board and its employees to hear feedback directly from the community. It also allows us to meet with representatives from a diverse range of organisations to learn more about their experiences and expectations of the national broadcaster.”
ABC managing director Michelle Guthrie said that the location of the ABC’s first community forum had been carefully considered.
“We wanted to ensure that the first community forum was held in regional Australia. It’s no accident that the forum coincides with NAIDOC Week and the ABC’s 85th birthday. The ABC tells Australian stories so it’s fitting that we are heading to the heart of Australia for our first community forum.”
