Fairfax Radio broadcast the last dedicated 2UE news bulletin last night from its Greenwich studios ahead of the merger of the Sydney newsrooms of 2UE and 2GB following the merger of Fairfax Radio and Macquarie Radio. 2UE drive host Justin Smith alerted his audience of the the final bulletin. The last newcast from the 2UE newsroom was presented by 2UE news director Matt McDonald and carried a small piece from reporter Robert Spicer of less than a minute paying tribute to the rich history of 90 years covering the big stories in Sydney and around Australia.
2UE news staff gathered in the studios last night as the final bulletin went to air and reporter Lucy Brennan posted this photo on social media.
There has yet to be any official announcement about the changes, but speculation is that around 50 jobs could go nationally following the radio merger, some of them coming from the Sydney news operations.
In Sydney this morning Macquarie News’ Natalie Peters was reading the breakfast news bulletins on both 2GB and 2UE.
