• Game on as both Triple M and hit107 climb with three of other four stations down
• Nova 91.9 now holds onto top spot in market with Fiveaa breakfast #1 commercial
Nova 91.9 11.6%
In a stunning result to start the year, Nova has ranked #1 commercial station in the market, taking the title off Mix 102.3. Apart from a winning share, Nova also has a winning station cume of 312,000. The station’s breakfast show with Dylan Lewis and Shane Lowe trails Mix narrowly on 10.7%, but it has a bigger cume audience of 173,000. Nova’s 10+ share lifted 0.4 of a point largely off the back of weekend rising 1.7 to 12.4%. Breakfast lifted 0.1 and morning was up 0.6. Drive with Kate, Tim and Marty continues to be the station’s best performing timeslot with share up 0.9 to 14.2% where it continues to rank #1. Smallzy’s Surgery remains #1 on 19.9% despite a drop of 1.9. Nova continues to trail hit107 18-24 despite the Nova share jumping 4.9 to 22.4%. Nova lost top spot 25-39 to hit107, with share down 0.7 to 17.8%.
Mix 102.3 11.4%
One of the surprises of the survey was the Adelaide KIIS network station surrendering top spot after a long run leading the market. The slide at Mix has turned into a trend, with ARN wanting to find a fix to get it back on top. All dayparts were hammered including weekends where the loss was 2.6 to 11.4%. The Jodie and Soda breakfast show was down 1.4 to 11.3% which means they hold onto the #1 FM mantle, 0.6 of a point ahead of Nova. Mix has lost the #1 spot at work though with morning down 1.9 to 11.1% and afternoon down 0.6 to 12.8%. The station is outrated in both timeslots by hit107 and also Triple M in the morning slot. The Mix drive slot is reporting a share of 11.0%, down 1.5, with the station’s FM ranking down from #2 to #3 this survey. The key demos were not much better with 25-39 down 4.0 ranking Mix #3 while 40-54 was down 2.5 to 15.2%, ranking Mix #2 behind a surging 5MMM.
5MMM 10.2%
A huge survey too for both Adelaide Southern Cross Austereo stations with an improving 5MMM narrowly ahead of an improving hit107. The rock network station has rebounded into double figures which must have something to do with new content director Matt O’Reilly. The goods news starts in the Roo and Ditts breakfast show with a 0.9 lift to 9.6% with the show oh-so-close to double figures. Morning then lifted 1.9 to 11.8% under host Iron Hayden where the station now ranks #1 in Adelaide. Sean Craig Murphy is getting amongst the ratings too with his afternoon slot lifting 2.7 to 12.5% where it trails improving market-leader hit107 by less than a point. While not quite contesting top spot, yet, there were big improvements in drive with Jars and Louie and evening when the station broadcasts Merrick…and Australia. All demos were actually down…except for 40-54 where 5MMM has shot to #1 with share up 8.1 points (!!) to 20.5%.
hit107 10.1%
Happy days in Adelaide too for the hit sales team who see the second of the company’s two networks smash its way into double figures. The station’s Cat and Amos breakfast show turned it on big time with a lift of 2.4 points to 8.1%. The good news continued with English Chris in the morning lifting share 3.1 to 11.3% while Alexis in afternoon now ranks #1 in Adelaide thanks to growth of 2.5 in share to 13.1%. All that activity didn’t continue through to drive though where Hamish and Andy dipped 0.6 to 11.1%. That ranks them #2 in the slot which is an improvement on being #3 at the end of 2015. The station really delivered in the under 40 demos too with 18-24 up 6.1 to 31.3% and 25-39 climbing 3.9 to 18.9% to rank #1 too after previously ranking #3.
Fiveaa 9.6%
The importance of the David Penberthy and Will Goodings breakfast show is clear in these survey one figures. It keeps the station at #1 commercial in the breakfast market, trailing only ABC891 overall. However the station’s 10+ share is down to 9.9% where it ranks fifth out of the six Adelaide commercial licences. All the station’s dayparts backed off a little this survey including breakfast. Leon Byner is down to 11.1%, Jeremy Cordeaux is now hosting an afternoon slot on 6.6% while drive with Rowey and Bicks is on 9.5%, trailing all the FM stations. Fiveaa again ranks #4 commercial 55-64, but maintains top spot 65+ with 22.2%.
Cruise 1323 7.2%
Another challenging survey for an AM music station. Share was down 1.3 from 8.5%. All dayparts dropped share with afternoon down 2.7 to 7.3% and drive down 1.3 to 6.0%. With hit107 on the comeback trail, Cruise breakfast is now ranked #6 out of 6 on 6.2%. The station continues to deliver a strong 55-64 share of 18.3%, nearly 8.0 points ahead of Fiveaa.
