Seven’s combined channel (network) share has continued on its winning streak with a ninth week as the TV ratings leader. Seven also ranked #1 primary channel and #1 multichannel again with 7mate.
Seven: 21.2% primary share, 30.4% network share
Seven’s primetime dominance can once again be tracked to 7 News performance and the attraction of AFL. The AFL had less competition this week with no regular NRL matches on an Origin weekend.
After Seven’s 6pm news bulletins, the biggest audience of 652,000 gathered to watch Big Brother on Wednesday.
The biggest AFL audience was 629,000 on Friday night for the St Kilda v Richmond match.
Home and Away averaged just over 600,000 for the week.
The 7News Spotlight program had an audience of 595,000.
Nine: 19.2% primary share, 27.7% network share
Share was up slightly week-on-week for the primary channel and the network. Nine started the TV ratings week strongly with primary share over 20% on three of the first four nights of the week.
The launch of Australian Ninja Warrior just made it to 801,000 on Sunday. The subsequent episodes on Monday and Tuesday were just over and just under 600,000.
A Current Affair had another strong week with the average audience jumping back above 700,000 which is where it has been for three of the past four weeks.
The final episode ever of Doctor Doctor went out with 486,000.
10: 11.3% primary share, 18.4% network share
Have You Been Paying Attention? was again the standout performer with a sixth consecutive week over 700,000.
MasterChef then performed well enough to get two episodes into the Top 20 for the week with Monday on 631,000 and Sunday on 619,000. The Tuesday and Wednesday episodes were both over 550,00.
The Sunday Project 7pm was next best on 451,000 with the Monday to Friday episodes averaging 432,000 after 7pm.
ABC: 11.4% primary share, 15.7% network share
With no Hard Quiz for a few weeks the only program to pass 600,000 was the 7pm news bulletins. 7.30 got close with an average of 581,000.
The only programs then to crack 500,000 were Spicks and Specks and Anh’s Brush with Fame.
It made sense to test the new game show format Win the Week in the Hard Quiz slot, but that also invites direct comparisons with the hit show it was replacing. The launch episode of Win the Week was on 490,000, down from the Hard Quiz audience of 664,000 the week prior. It doesn’t have the feel of a winning format, but let’s give it a few weeks to see how viewers take to it. The guest casting was sound for the first episode, but the last time Andrew Denton was involved with a game show it didn’t end well. (He hosted Randling for one season in 2012.)
SBS: 4.5% primary share, 7.8% network share
Despite the boost from the first night of the Tour de France, SBS trended lower week on week with the lowest primary and network share since April.
Who Do You Think You Are? drew the biggest audience again with 349,000 watching the Denise Drysdale episode.
The Tuesday audience wave also boosted Dateline to 213,000 and then Dateline to 185,000.
