Surging up the charts this week is Jason Sudeikis’ Ted Lasso. As the second season begins rolling out, the show has come in at second place on three of the four charts, with the exception being the Overall New Zealand chart, where Ted Lasso came in fifth.
In the show, American Ted Lasso is a coach of college-level American soccer team. He finds himself recruited to coach an English Premier League team, AFC Richmond, despite having absolutely no experience in that level of the game.
Ted Lasso came in at 22.66 points above market average in Australia, and 13.01 in New Zealand.
After claiming the top position on all four charts for three weeks straight, Loki has lost its reign over the entire set of charts. Again, the exception is the Overall New Zealand chart where it has slipped to second. The third Marvel TV show to be released on Disney+ this year is also the first to be officially renewed for a second season – an announcement that was made during the credits of the season finale last week.
The show weaves its way in and out of timelines, as the mysterious TVA works to keep variants under control and “prune” any branches from the Sacred Timeline. With the finale blowing the timeline open and ending on a major cliffhanger, fans are all but convinced that the ending will lead into Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. They’ll have to wait though, Multiverse of Madness isn’t due for release until March next year.
In Australia, Loki has come in at 29.48 points above market average, and 17.47 points above market average in New Zealand.
Speaking of shows with confusing timelines, taking the top spot on the Overall New Zealand chart is sci-fi favourite, Rick & Morty. The sixth episode of season five, Rick & Morty’s Thanksploitation Spectacular, makes itself the joke by taking action movie tropes and playing them out in a Thanksgiving setting.
