Another big result to start the year for the Nine Radio station. As outgoing Nine CEO Hugh Marks explained to Mediaweek, the challenge this year for the business is to monetise the leading audience shares better than they have been. Ben Fordham and Ray Hadley are still overall leaders in their timeslots as are Brooke Corte and John Stanley in the evening. Share of listening 55-64 climbed 4.2 to 18.0%.

Shares were down marginally across the board at the market-leading FM station. The exception was evening where share was up 2.4 to 11.5%. smoothfm reclaimed top spot 40-54, outrating WSFM with a smoothfm share of 12.1%.

Although the overall share was down 1.8 this survey, Kyle and Jackie O maintain a clear lead as breakfast FM leaders on 9.8%. However their breakfast share was also down – from 11.3% to 9.8%. Morning and afternoon share was down over 2.5 in each while drive dipped 1.7 to 8.5%. The station recorded big falls 10-17 (down 6.6 to 14.7%), 18-24 (down 5.8 to 11.3%) and 25-39 (down 4.4 to 15.6%).

The station had a poor finish to 2020 and there is no sign of a recovery yet to their best in the last 12 months. Breakfast with Jonesy and Amanda took a hit with share down 1.7 to 5.7% where they only now outrate Sydney breakfast newcomer Hughesy. Afternoons bucked the trend with a rise of 1.8 to 8.7%. Shares 25-39 and 40-54 were down, but share was up 55-64 where WSFM now outrates former leader smoothfm.

Cume audience pushed back above 1m where it joins KIIS and smoothfm in the million listener club. Fitzy and Wippa saw breakfast share slip 0.8 to 6.5%. The new Kate, Tim and Joel drive show continues to perform best for the station in Sydney, although share was down 0.5 to 8.9%. The station now shares Sydney drive leadership with sister station smoothfm.

Moonman started the year with breakfast share up 0.8 to 6.4%, better than anything the station managed in the few surveys last year. Triple M afternoon performs best with 7.6%.

Hughesy and his new Sydney breakfast colleagues Ed and Erin only moved the dial the slightest of amounts in share this survey – 4.4% (+0.2). They are heading in the right direction though. Little movement elsewhere at the station – afternoon was up 0.7 to 5.4%.

The market’s big mover was Nine Radio’s AM station where share nearly doubled 10+. The Steve Jacobs breakfast show also found a stronger pulse with share up from 1.1 to 1.7%. Weekends perform best with a share of 2.7%.

The first survey for the former frequency where listeners used to find 2CH. Breakfast host Andrew Voss had a long summer break and has been greeted with an inaugural breakfast share of 0.2%. The best performing daypart is evening on 0.9%. Best performing demo is 55-64 with 0.7%.
