Sky News bombshells: Sports legend quits, evening talk show expanding

There are expected to be more significant programming changes in the new year

James Bracey with Paul Murray

The evening hosts on Sky News Australia last night dropped several programming bombshells that will affect the programming lineup in 2017.

On the first night of his last week of the year, PM Live host Paul Murray revealed that his program will return in 2017 in a two-hour format beginning each night at 9pm.

During his Monday show last night, Murray told viewers the change was made possible by James Bracey‘s decision to vacate his 10pm slot with his daily Sportsnight program.

After his show last night, Murray told Mediaweek: “We are growing PM Live in 2017. Two hours every night means more guests, more debate and plenty more time to fire up about stuff that matters in the real world.”

After close to 13 years at Sky News where he has virtually reported on sport across all dayparts, Bracey is quitting the broadcaster to travel the world with his wife. Of his departure, Murray said last night: “Our loss is the world’s gain.”

Bracey told listeners this would be his last week at the channel and that it had been a challenging year for his program after the loss of regular contributor Rebecca Wilson.

Sky News is moving into new ownership with News Corp Australia taking control. There are expected to be more significant programming changes in the new year.
