Swapping the locker room and news desk for the microphone in the return of Jock and Journo
Collingwood legend, Scott Pendlebury (the Jock) and the Herald Sun’s Jay Clark (the Journo) have resurrected their Jock and Journo podcast, with the first episode of the new season now available on LiSTNR.
Jock and Journo sees the pair talking all things AFL, the wider world of sport and life beyond footy every Monday.
Podcast Week’s Tess Connery caught up with Pendlebury and Clark to find out why now was the time to bring the podcast back.
Why was now the time to bring the podcast out of hiatus?
SP: “It’s always fun to be talking footy and sport, but to align ourselves with a finals return, it’s extra exciting for the podcast. September is just such a cool time of the year to be passionately talking footy and delving deeper into the stories and the people involved in our great game.”
Will the new season be any different from the original podcast, or can fans expect the podcast to pick straight up where it left off?
SP: “We’re sticking to our main aims of giving an insight into our contrasting points of view – the player point of view and the media point of view. We will continue to challenge people’s thinking with different ideas, theories and views, and will try out a range of different guests to hear their stories. Brayden Maynard’s chat, and the great Mike Sheahan’s chat already in our re-launch have been a few of the highlights of the entire life of the pod.”
How did you end up at LiSTNR for the podcast’s revival?
JC: “We joined forces with LiSTNR because of its slick podcast productions, its creative and forward-thinking staff and the chance to take things up a notch. Clearly, the LiSTNR network is growing at a fast pace and we wanted to be part of its vast reach into the listening devices of the sporting public.”
What are your hopes for the return of the podcast?
JC: “We want to do what others can’t. We want to go behind the scenes, into the locker rooms and into the minds of our footy and sporting greats. Scott is one of the game’s greatest players and most driven competitors. We have a strong rapport which makes it comfortable to explore tricky and interesting subjects. Our guests can explain their journey from the bottom to the top and with Scott and I it is easy to engage from all angles as a journo and a footy champion.”
With the podcast returning for the AFL finals, what are you anticipating seeing in the pointy end of the 2023 season?
JC: “It’s one of the most open seasons we’ve seen. It will be about who capitalises on the momentum swings and big moments. The storylines are epic. Nick Daicos. Charlie Curnow. Will Brisbane choke at home or not? It’s been a brilliant season.”

AYR Media and iHeart team up for a new scripted true-crime podcast, inspired by a true story
In the eight-part series The Murder Years, hosted by actress Gabrielle Carteris (playing the role of “Nancy Clark”), a woman reinvestigates the murders that defined her high school years in the 1980s.
Some claimed these killings were a streak of bad luck, while others said they were tied to an ancient curse.
Forty years later, as the students who lived through these terrifying years revisit their past—the music, the clothes, the gossip, the murders—it seems the “curse” might be returning to this sleepy town via a new round of unexplainable, bizarre and violent deaths.
New episodes are released every Thursday.

Peek behind the curtains of the social media industry with Approved
Melbourne-based creative agency Melbourne Social Co has announced the launch of Approved, a podcast hosted by sisters and resident social media experts, Hannah and Nicole Coombs.
Approved is a fortnightly peek behind the curtains of the social media industry, where the hosts sit down to spill the tea about what it’s like to work in social media and all that it entails.
In each episode they will look at pop culture and how platforms like TikTok and Instagram influence our daily lives, and chat to influential up and comers in the industry about how the navigate the landscape to promote both themselves and their brands.
Delivered through the lens of Gen Z women forging careers in marketing themselves, Approved exists to help listeners unpack social media updates, learn from industry heavyweights and dabble in influencer ‘tea’, all shared with the familiarity that comes with a chat between sisters.
Hannah Coombs said: “Being able to work on a podcast with your own sister is honestly a dream come true! There are so many production elements that come into it, from learning about new equipment, navigating sound and video, while marketing it all in a fun and new way. As MSC newly appointed Head of Production, I’m excited for this to be my first agency project!”
Sports Bizarre to celebrate Australia’s 1983 America’s Cup Win with special podcast series
On Monday, 26 September 1983, Australia II crossed the finish line in the deciding race of the America’s Cup, ending the longest winning streak in the history of sport, 132 years.
The moment instantly became one of Australia’s greatest sporting moments, uniting a nation that was coming off a devastating drought, tough economic times, and failure at the recent Olympic Games.
Following Australia’s unexpected triumph, newly elected Prime Minister Bob Hawke famously said, “Any boss who sacks anyone for not turning up today is a bum.”
Sports Bizarre with Titus O’Reily and Mick Molloy will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the victory with a special series exploring the history and rare facts of the America’s Cup.
Sports Bizarre’s new series begins on Monday, 4 September, and runs throughout the month, culminating in a special episode on the 40th anniversary, Tuesday, 26 September, with an hour-long interview with the winning skipper John Bertrand.

LiSTNR and Australian Electoral Commission launch Your Answer Matters – Referendum 101 podcast
LiSTNR and the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) have launched a podcast series to help people understand why referendums are held and how to participate, as Australians prepare to head to the polls on 14 October.
It’s been over 20 years since Australia held a referendum, which means around 6.4 million people haven’t voted in one before. The 10-episode Your Answer Matters – Referendum 101 podcast series will create a safe space for people to learn everything they need to know to get referendum-ready.
Podcast episodes are up to 10 minutes long and feature AEC spokespeople covering topics like the history of referendums, what a double majority is, mythbusting and what happens on voting day.
Seb Rennie, SCA chief commercial officer, said the series was designed to educate and inform.
“Given it’s been so long between referendums, many people have no experience with the process – and they probably have lots of questions!” he said.
“This type of podcast series is a great example of how LiSTNR’s platform and SCA’s broadcast and streaming assets can be used to spread the word about important events in an objective way.
“We’re really proud of the AEC partnership and hope it helps listeners participate in the referendum.”

Where to find the new late-night hosts collaboration podcast, Strike Force Five, in Australia
With the Hollywood writers’ strike passing the 100 days mark earlier this month – with no signs of ending soon – five of America’s top late night talk show hosts have gotten together for a podcast to benefit the strikers. Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and John Oliver have launched the Strike Force Five podcast, with the debut episode out now.
The hosts of five major late-night talk shows originally planned to meet every week to discuss the complexities behind the ongoing Hollywood strikes. Instead, what ensued was a series of hilarious and compelling conversations. In the limited-series podcast, fans can listen in on these once-private chats.
The podcast is available on major podcast platforms – including Spotify and Apple Podcasts – in Australia as well as globally.
All proceeds received by the hosts from Strike Force Five will go to out-of-work staff from the hosts’ respective shows, including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
