Zoë Callister- Hakewill talks Beyond the Medicine Cabinet

LiSTNR has launched the Beyond the Medicine Cabinet podcast in partnership with Dr’s On Call and Kooyong, which features real-world examples of how medical technology has changed the lives of many Australians.

The series aims to educate medical professionals on the latest technologies and advancements in all facets of the medical sector through human stories and experiences.

Beyond the Medicine Cabinet is hosted by Dr’s On Call general manager, Zoë Callister- Hakewill. She is also the Australian editor of the Innovation & Impact Scientific Technology and Business Journal and has expertise in commercialisation research, public health, health law and ethics.

Callister- Hakewill holds a Bachelor of Science (Psychological Science) from Macquarie University, a Bachelor of Medical Science, a Masters of International Public Health, and a Masters of Health Law from the University of Sydney and is completing an MBA at Deakin University

Podcast Week‘s Trent Thomas caught up with Callister- Hakewill about how the project came together.

“I applied to the women in leadership Australia course and ended up getting a scholarship and there were a couple of people from SCA in the programme, including Kim Norman (SCA head of commercial – Podcasts and Partnerships)” said Callister- Hakewill. “I was telling them about how passionate I was about startups and innovation, and particularly the health tech space and they asked if I had ever done a podcast before. They thought I would be really great at being able to tell the stories in audio form.

“I made a 30-page document of all the different ideas of what I thought we could do.  Kim then introduced me to Todd Stevens, my executive producer, and he really developed and refined the idea. He brought this idea of the patient experience and they looked at the market and said there are a lot of med-tech podcasts out at the moment, but not a lot of them are actually looking at the patient.”

Callister- Hakewill was the one who introduced the idea of SCA and Kooyong collaborating on this project. Kooyong is part of Avant Medical Group and provides financial loan options to medical specialists.

“They are going through a rebranding and they thought this could be a really great opportunity to rebrand what they’re trying to achieve. I introduced Kooyong to SCA and we did a pitch and then they said, yes.”

Kooyong CEO, James Ostroburski, said “Storytelling is a big part of how Kooyong communicates with doctors and the communities we support, so the opportunity to sponsor Beyond the Medicine Cabinet was a natural fit for us. These stories of medical and health technology innovation changing lives for the better will be a valuable resource to both the medical community and their patients.”

Callister- Hakewill said that she hopes this is just the beginning for the podcast, with future guests already in mind.

“Some of them are at a stage where I would have loved to have had them on, but they are at that crticial trial point. I’m really excited to hopefully get them on for a future season because they couldn’t give me a patient because I will compromise the clinical trial results.

“I am also looking to showcase more technologies in this space and having more collaborations involved. I honestly think it’s about empowering everyday people with the knowledge that they need to help them make a better-informed decision about their own health.”

9Podcast’s Come To Therapy With Me invites listeners to join mum’s therapy sessions

9Podcasts has released a new podcast, Come To Therapy With Me.

In Come To Therapy With Me, listeners are invited to follow Nikolina’s virgin journey into therapy. It’s an insight into what therapy sessions are like, what a therapist is like, how therapy works and just how effective it can be for a 29-year-old about to be mum-of-two who has no idea what she is doing in all aspects of her life – career, motherhood and her social life.

After experiencing post-natal blues following the birth of her son Noah, Nikolina wants to be better prepared for baby number two. She wants to be ready to deal with the anxiety and stress that being a new parent can cause.

But motherhood isn’t the only thing causing her anxiety. Nikolina is an overthinker. She overthinks her career moves, her relationship, her friendships, her finances, her skincare routine, when COVID will disappear…pretty much just about everything.

So, there is a lot to talk about and a lot for her therapist to dissect.

In this limited series, Nikolina sits down with a qualified therapist and signs away her privacy agreement in order to welcome listeners into her weekly sessions. Just her, the therapist and your keen ears.

Join Nikolina as she opens up her heart and her mind. If any of the topics above strike a chord with you, this podcast might just be the nudge you need to put yourself first and book a session of your own. New episodes are released every Monday.

Joe Rogan revelas he’s turned down opportunities to interview Donald Trump

Joe Rogan, host of Spotify’s top podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience has revealed his stance on former US president Donald Trump.

During his appearance on Lex Fridman’s podcast, posted on YouTube, Rogan said, “I’m not a Trump supporter in any way, shape, or form.

“I’ve had the opportunity to have him on my show more than once. I’ve said no every time. I don’t want to help him. I’m not interested in helping him,” he said.

Rogan also told Fridman that he believes the Trump era will “be one of the weirder times.”

“When people look back historically about the division in this country, he’s such a polarizing figure that so many people felt like they could abandon their own ethics and morals and principles just to attack him and anybody who supports him because he is an existential threat to democracy itself,” Rogan said.

Rogan has had a deal with Spotify since May 2020 where Spotify has exclusive access to host the Joe Rogan Experience on its platform. The deal is allegedly worth $US200 ($278) million.

In an episode titled, “My Dad Messaged Me On Insta To Tell Me I’m Fat” with Milo Hartill, Hartill recalls the time her father, who she hadn’t spoken to in 13 years, messaged her on Instagram.

“My father, I haven’t spoke to him in over 13 years and he messaged me on Instagram to tell me I’m fat,” she said.

“He replied to a story of me – he responded to it saying ‘if you went for a walk in the sun, you would lose all of your stomachs’.”

Hartill then continued to share the time she thought her father was dead.

“We’re getting into my family history, but before the first time I met him, which was when I was seven, he left for Botswana when I was one and then had his brother or uncle or something tell my mum that he’d died.

“So we thought he was dead.”

She then continued, “He goes if you don’t come to Botswana and start working on the farm I’m going to get the ancestors to haunt you

“He tried to convince us he was dead, I was like ‘who’s the ancestors, you? because you died?”
