Marketing technology and advertising content network Medical Channel has appointed Peter Wiltshire as a non-executive director as the company’s rapid expansion continues.

Wiltshire’s most recent full-time position was chief revenue officer and group sales and marketing director for Nine Entertainment Co (NEC) group of companies.

Since leaving NEC a year ago, Wiltshire has been consulting to various media organisations including MediaWorks in New Zealand and joins Medical Channel’s board of directors after four months advising the business.

As a director, Wiltshire will be involved in assisting with commercialising the platform. The board is confident he is the appropriate expert to act in that capacity. He has also made an investment in the business.

Wiltshire’s board appointment is effective immediately and follows a hiring spree that saw the company take on 82 new staff in just four months.

The leap in headcount places Medical Channel as one of Australia’s fastest-growing companies in the marketing technology sector.

The majority of the hires have gone into bulking Medical Channel’s sales team as part of its strategy to reinvigorate the local business marketing sector – targeting small businesses that previously relied on classifieds and local newspaper marketing to promote themselves.

It follows a $25 million raise and its acquisition of rival Community Network last year.

Medical Channel operates and provides content for a network of digital display screens in health practices across Australia. It now has screens in over 3,200 waiting rooms around the country.

Medical Channel CEO Nazar Musa said: “We’re excited to welcome Peter and his extensive experience in the media industry to the Medical Channel board. His 27 years of experience working in the media will be invaluable to our future efforts in identifying and leveraging digital media opportunities for the business. As the out-of-home sector flourishes, the addition of expert media authorities like Peter is important to bring further vision and insight to a sector that will only continue its explosive growth. It’s a huge benefit for Medical Channel to have Peter on board and an even bigger advantage for the digital OOH industry overall.”

Peter Wiltshire said: “In the past few months of consulting to the business I have been highly impressed with Medical Channel’s strategy, achievements and potential. That time has also given me a chance to get to know Nazar and his team. I’m delighted to join this highly experienced and astute board of directors and look forward to supporting Nazar and the group in developing and executing Medical Channel’s strategic plan.”
