Radio 6PR’s afternoon and sport presenter Peter Bell has announced his resignation from the station to pursue other opportunities.
That opportunity is taking over the breakfast slot at 720 ABC in Perth.
“I am incredibly excited to be taking on this wonderful opportunity hosting the 720 ABC Perth Breakfast program,” Bell said.
“Having been involved in talkback format as well as AFL broadcasting for a number of years I particularly enjoy the immediacy of radio as well as building a strong connection to the listening audience.”
Bell would be taking over from James Lush, who took over ABC 720 Perth breakfast from the late Eoin Cameron.
6PR’s commercial director Barrie Quick said he wished Bell well with his future endeavours. “Peter has been with us for almost three years and is respected and well-liked by both listeners and staff. He has made a valuable contribution and now leaves 6PR with our thanks and best wishes.”
Bell also thanked 6PR for the opportunities it had afforded him. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at 6PR where I’ve been fortunate to present the afternoon show and to work with such a great team of people.”
Peter Bell will finish on-air with the station at the end of August and 6PR will announce his replacement soon.
Former Pacific Star Network CEO Barrie Quick is working in the Perth market for 6PR owner Macquarie Media on a temporary assignment.
Sarah Knight, Local Radio manager Perth, said, “I’m delighted to welcome Peter to our team at 720 ABC Perth. His warm personality and wit along with his passion for everything Perth will be a great start to everyone’s day.
“I’d also like to thank James Lush who will continue in the hot seat until Peter starts on air. He is doing a terrific job presenting but says that hosting a Breakfast show and running a full-time business is not sustainable. We are grateful he’s been able to join us in the interim.”
